North Platte, Neb. - Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) North Platte location is hosting the Knights BBQ Cookoff on April 20th on the NPCC South Campus pavilion. Public activities will be available during the cookoff which are set to kick off at 4:00pm, 6:00pm is when the meal will be served and awards for the competition will take place at 7:30. Rascal Martinez, an alum of MPCC will be performing live music around 6:00pm.&nbsp;

MPCC numbers for the competition are low and are looking for anywhere from 5-15 teams to join the competition. If numbers remain low, the event will no longer have a competition but those in attendance will still receive a meal. The Documentary will explore Kevin's incredible journey from North Platte to the ends of the Earth as he writes 7 songs on 7 continents in 7 weeks. The show is a amazing 7 part documentary travel series as Kevin travels through the USA, Argentina, Antarctica, Laos, Ethiopia, Serbia, and Australia. North Platte, Neb. - The Prairie Arts Center (PAC) is gearing up with new events and classes for the month of April and beyond. The PAC is hosting a concert this Saturday as welcome Job, Peter and Chuck for a one night performance. The trio, which used to sing together is getting back together for the evening with their concert at the PAC called "You Can't Make Old Friends". 

The show is set to begin at 7:00pm and very few tickets remain, to purchase a ticket if still available, <a href="https://www.prairieartscenter.org/booking-calendar/you-can-t-make-old-friends-concert?referral=service_list_widget">click here</a>. The PAC is also will be hosting classes for adults and kids. Kid classes sign ups are on April 22nd.&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - The Mid-Plains United Way recently held their Easter Egg Hunt event back on March 30th at Pals Brewing. The event was a huge success in the kid's egg hunt but also the adult hunt, as over $3,000 was raised. Mid-Plains United Way is also getting ready for Giving Day on May 8th. The organization also recently introduced a monthly donation online from the organization's website if you would like to give a recurring donation.&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - NPIce concluded their second year with great successful. NPIce offered public skating, hockey lessons, drop-in hockey, learn to skate and residents and surrounding communities took notice and made the trip out to the rink in North Platte.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NPIce is already looking ahead for the 2023-2024 winter season and has sponsorships and project goals ready to go. A goal project goal that NPIce has been thinking about is adding a cover over the rink. During Feb. we seen a few days where the warm weather caused the ice to melt. NPIce will be a part of Giving Day on May 8th, planning on doing more dine out days and also having a glo ball golf tournament in North Platte.&nbsp;

The event is free to participate and it is asked that kids bring their own baskets to the hunt. There will be four different age groups of kids that will go during the hunt. After the hunt is over, prizes will be raffled. It is asked that you show up around 1:30pm to get registered for the event.&nbsp;

Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with Olivia Dobesh, Tuesday Allen and Enlai Hou who are students on the North Platte Student Council. The North Platte Student Council is hosting a Light Up the Night 5k and Mile with the proceeds for the event going to Make A Wish Nebraska. &nbsp;

The race is March 30rd at Cody Park in North Platte. The run is set to begin at 7:30pm. To run the 5K it costs $28 while the mile costs $15. Post News Director Canon Rath chatted with McPherson County Schools Superintendent Tim Vanderheiden as McPherson County School is currently in open enrollment until Friday, March 15th. Vanderheiden joined McPherson County Schools in July of 2020. The duo discussed what the benefits of going to a smaller school can be for students, how student state test scores averages are increasing, latest technology students can use at the school and more. &nbsp;

(Press Release) NORTH PLATTE - It's that time of year again where warm-hearted people take a very cold dip for a good cause.&nbsp; For the first time, a polar plunge will be held in North Platte.

The Polar Plunge is an annual event that challenges participants to show support for the Special Olympics Nebraska by plunging into a lake - in the dead of winter. Plungers are encouraged to form teams, dress in costume and share their experience by using the hashtag #BeBoldGetCold.&nbsp;

Those brave enough to run into the icy waters raise money by collecting pledges from family and friends. Prizes are awarded for creativity and fundraising. Proceeds from the Polar Plunge support over 6,000 Nebraskans with intellectual and development disabilities who participate in Special Olympics Nebraska.

Join us! Don't miss the opportunity to capture the excitement and spirit of this remarkable event. Plungers and law enforcement volunteers who are actively involved with the Special Olympics Nebraska movement will be present and eager to share their inspiring sorties and enthusiasm for the cause.

"We are so excited to add another location to our Polar Plunges this year. We look forward to seeing the North Platte community come together to support the amazing athletes of Special Olympics Nebraska," said Carolyn Chamberlin, President and CEO of Special Olympics Nebraska.

There will be a post-plunge party immediately following the event at Axes and Aces in North Platte.
