Robert Lee “R.L.”, “Bob” Smith, 80, of North Platte passed away at his home on September 11, 2021.&nbsp; Bob was born December 16, 1940 to Edward and Margaret (Lefleur) Smith in Mt. Vernon, Washington.&nbsp; He attended schools in Walla Walla, Washington and then entered the National Guard. Bob married Dorene Jensen on January 27, 1967 in Lexington, Nebraska.&nbsp; In 1968, they moved to Cozad when Bob hired out with the Union Pacific Railroad.&nbsp; Then they moved to North Platte and Bob continued to work for the UPRR until his retirement in 2002.&nbsp; Bob had been working for Pizza Hut as a delivery man for the past 10 years and truly loved his Pizza Hut family and customers.&nbsp; He enjoyed camping, working on his old cars and spending time with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Bob was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges. Bob is survived by his wife, Dorene, of North Platte; sons, Larry (Tammy) Smith and Rick Smith all of North Platte; grandchildren, Larry Smith, Jr., Joel Navarrete and Harley (Nicole) Smith all of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Chauncey Smith, Lexie Szwanek, Harley Smith, and newborn Lucas Smith; brother-in-law, Donald Jensen, North Platte; and numerous other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Smith; siblings, Dennis Smith, Anette Deartell, Shirley Lanning and Ray Smith. A memorial has been established in his name. She attended Farnam High School and graduated with the class of 1960. After graduation, she was united&nbsp;in marriage to William "Bill" Karl Betz at the Dawson county courthouse on May 26, 1960. They were married for 61 years and blessed with three children; William Lynn "Willy", Connie Jean, and Judy Zoe.&nbsp; Bonnie supported Bill as they farmed in rural Eustis until 1980, they then moved into Eustis and later on they moved to Lexington before settling in Gothenburg. As her health declined, she moved into Emerald Care Center in Cozad. In January of 2020, she moved to Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg to be with her husband.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing in her free time, as well as doll collecting. Other adventures included operating a second hand store as well. Bonnie was never short of a smile on her face and hugs to extend to others. After going to Hilltop, she loved bingo days. He grew up in Hyannis graduating from Hyannis High School.&nbsp; Following high school, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.&nbsp; With a semester left in school he volunteered to serve his country in the US Army serving from June 21,1966 until June 20, 1968. He married Bonnie L. Aubushon on April 22, 1972.&nbsp; They had two children Nicole and Brandon. They later divorced. John worked with Simon Contractors as a mechanic in North Platte, NE.&nbsp; John lived in Gothenburg from 1972 until 2011 when he moved to Brady.&nbsp; He loved ranching and spending time with his grandkids and going to their sports activities.&nbsp; &nbsp;During the fall and winter months he loved to go shooting and&nbsp; hunting. Survivors include son, Brandon (Virginia) Evert of Brady; daughter, Nicole (Danny) Dishman of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren Austin and Bailey Dishman, and Clara, Grace and Emma Evert; brother, Lewis (Trudy) Evert of Brady, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents John Harvey Evert and Lucille Bernice Evert Jenkins. John Evert (1943-2021)

&nbsp;Gerald E. Wibbels made his final move to his heavenly home on July 7, 2021.&nbsp; He was 94 years old.&nbsp; Dad was born on September 18, 1926, to Richard Elmer Wibbels and Eva Blanche (White) Wibbels in Arcadia, Nebraska.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1944. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was inducted into the Army in 1945 and spent one year of his military service in South Korea in the 52nd&nbsp;Signal Battalion. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, and the Word War II Victory Medal for his service to his country. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;After returning home he married Orma Rae Lutz (Arcadia) on June 24, 1947. They made their home and farmed in the Arcadia area.&nbsp; Their first baby, John Edwin (1948), was still-born and his death was a great loss for them.&nbsp; By 1953, they were blessed with four more children.&nbsp; In 1955, they moved to the Clinton, Iowa area where they continued farming and 2 more children were added to the family. In 1964, the family moved to the city of Clinton where Gerald began working at DuPont. Then in 1974, their last child, Sara, was born. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Gerald and Orma were always interested in helping young people, both at church and the Clinton Job Corp where they befriended young people from all over the nation. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;He worked at the DuPont plant in Clinton for a number of years.&nbsp; After his retirement from DuPont in 1985, they moved to Broken Bow, Nebraska where he worked for almost 15 years as a custodian for the Broken Bow School District.&nbsp; As always, he loved being around young people and became known as “Grandpa” to many. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The couple moved briefly to Oregon but returned back to their hometown of Arcadia, Nebraska. &nbsp;&nbsp;Dad eventually moved to Ord, Nebraska where he spent 4 years at Grandview Assisted Living.&nbsp; His final 3½ years were spent at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Gerald always enjoyed working outdoors.&nbsp; Later in his life, he mowed lawns around town and kept it up for as long as he was able.&nbsp; We remember him as a man who loved to tell jokes, tease his kids, and be around people and his family.&nbsp; He loved his Lord, church life and anything John Deere, and we miss him greatly. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Gerald is survived by his 7 children – Diane Wilson (Steve) of Clarkdale, Arizona; Jenifer Barr (Chuck) of Clinton, Iowa; Sharon Tunink (Dave) of Montgomery, Texas; Lee Wibbels (Jeannine) of Canby, Oregon; Mike Wibbels (Jodi) of Englewood, Colorado; Joe Wibbels of Central City, Nebraska; and Sara Heil (Rob) of Hill City, South Dakota; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters – Ruth Apperson of Blair, Nebraska; Janet Hansen (Dean) of Edgar, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Orma, of 59 years; son, John Edwin; one grandson; one great-grandson; daughter-in-law, Jody Wibbels; and his sister, Elinor Moody. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;His “adopted” granddaughter, Jen Busch and her husband Dave and family of Burwell, have been very special people in his life.&nbsp; The Busch’s were there for Gerald when family could not be. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The graveside service will be held at the Arcadia Cemetery at 11:00 on September 18, 2021, with the memorial service following at United Methodist Church in Arcadia at 12:00pm. Gerald Wibbels (1926-2021)

Helen Ilene Fattig, formerly of Cozad, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at Rockport, Texas at the age of 85. Ilene was born to Merle and Helen (Kelley) Stackhouse on March 10, 1936 in Maxwell, Ne. Ilene began school in Maxwell NE, but when her father got a job as a farm hand in Cozad, the family moved. Ilene married Carl Schmeeckle in 1954. To this union 4 children -Cindy, Connie, Pam and Michael were born. They later divorced.&nbsp; She moved to North Platte in 1972, working at the 6th Street Bakery, and&nbsp; then became employed at the Hub Bar. In the early 80’s she met the love of her life, Gary Fattig. In the mid-nineties, they purchased an RV, and went to work for Rod Donner at the Mid State Aviation as an aerial pilot.&nbsp; Ilene was also closer to her children and loved to help them in their busy lives. She loved to help her daughter Pam at PJ’s Restaurant in Cozad.&nbsp; Her time on the Schneider farm was always dear to her as they worked the cattle, going for parts for equipment, helping with harvest. She loved her family and most important was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After Gary retired from aerial spraying, Gary and Ilene would come to Cozad during the summer months and help the family, then travel in the winter months in the warmer southern states. Ilene would continue to almost daily call to check on her family and the weather. She would call the local weather numerous times throughout the day to check and see if there would be imminent weather where her family was! In 2006, Gary and Ilene purchased property and built a home in Rockport, Texas. Ilene and Gary continued to travel and met many great friends along the way,&nbsp; which they continue to stay in touch with all over the United States.&nbsp; Ilene and Gary deeply loved their Rockport home and neighbors in the “hood”. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Rhonda Stackhouse;&nbsp; 2 brothers, Robert “Bob” and Roger Stackhouse; sisters-in-law, Elsie Stackhouse and Vera Stackhouse; nephew, Jeff Pearson; great grandson, Isaac Schneider; many aunts and uncles that meant so much to her. Survivors include her significant other, Gary Fattig of Rockport, TX, children; Cindy (Randy) Schneider &nbsp;of Cozad, Connie (Rod) Diaz of Gothenburg, Pamela (Ron) Jacobson of Central, SC, Michael (Sara) Schmeeckle of Cozad; 7 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 siblings, Irene (Gary) Pearson of North Platte and Randy (Theresa)&nbsp; Stackhouse of Paris, MO; sisters-in-law, Cheri Stackhouse and Barbara Stackhouse; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She loved her family and most important was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After Gary retired from aerial spraying, Gary and Ilene would come to Cozad during the summer months and help the family, then travel in the winter months in the warmer southern states. Ilene would continue to almost daily call to check on her family and the weather. She would call the local weather numerous times throughout the day to check and see if there would be imminent weather where her family was! In 2006, Gary and Ilene purchased property and built a home in Rockport, Texas. Ilene and Gary continued to travel and met many great friends along the way,&nbsp; which they continue to stay in touch with all over the United States.&nbsp; Ilene and Gary deeply loved their Rockport home and neighbors in the “hood”. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Rhonda Stackhouse;&nbsp; 2 brothers, Robert “Bob” and Roger Stackhouse; sisters-in-law, Elsie Stackhouse and Vera Stackhouse; nephew, Jeff Pearson; great grandson, Isaac Schneider; many aunts and uncles that meant so much to her. Survivors include her significant other, Gary Fattig of Rockport, TX, children; Cindy (Randy) Schneider &nbsp;of Cozad, Connie (Rod) Diaz of Gothenburg, Pamela (Ron) Jacobson of Central, SC, Michael (Sara) Schmeeckle of Cozad; 7 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 siblings, Irene (Gary) Pearson of North Platte and Randy (Theresa)&nbsp; Stackhouse of Paris, MO; sisters-in-law, Cheri Stackhouse and Barbara Stackhouse; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Paulina Caballero De Zelaya, 70, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Lexington Regional Health Center. Paulina was a faithful member of the Peña De Oreb Church in Lexington. Being a good Christian was very important to her; she enjoyed long walks and listening to Christian music. Her family, church, and faith were always an important part of her life. Paulina has left a tremendous legacy of love and faith to her family. She leaves to celebrate her life; her husband Angel Zelaya of Lexington; her children, Yakelina Pacheco of Lexington and Jose Zelaya of Lexington; eight grandchildren, with five living close to her, Luis Roquez, Anthony Zelaya, Katheryn Pacheco, Inmar Pacheco and Diane Pacheco; also survived by numerous family members in El Salvador. Vernon Eugene Spencer, 85, of Lewellen, Nebraska passed away at Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Nebraska on Friday, September 10th, 2021. Gene was born August 31st, 1936 in White County, Illinois.&nbsp; He was welcomed into this world by his parents Vernon and Hazel Spencer.&nbsp; He was later joined by one brother Raymond and two sisters Ruth Ann and Virginia Lee.&nbsp; Their father was killed in a horse accident on July 2nd, 1951 when Gene was 14.&nbsp; After his father passed, his mother and siblings moved in with their grandparents. Gene graduated in 1953 from Crossville High School in Crossville, Illinois.&nbsp; Shortly after graduation he moved to Montana for work and later to Colorado. There he met and married Margaret (Kauder) Bigley and they were married on July 8th, 1958 In Raton, New Mexico.&nbsp; Marge had two daughters Pamela Sue and Dixie Lea from a previous marriage.&nbsp; Gene adopted and raised the girls as his own.&nbsp; In January 1959, they welcomed a daughter Penny Jolene into their family.&nbsp; In August 1960, Brett Eugene was born, finally a son.&nbsp; Kay Lynn was born October 1961 and completed the family. Gene began his career with Halliburton Oilfield Services in Sterling, Colorado in 1961.&nbsp; Over the next few years, they were transferred to Wyoming, Colorado, back to Wyoming, and then back to Colorado again.&nbsp; He retired after 30 years of service, and he and Marge moved to Lake McConaughy, Nebraska for their retirement.&nbsp; In December 1995, while visiting friends in Arkansas Marge become ill, and passed on December 21st, she was 64 years old. In 2000, he met and married Diane.&nbsp; They celebrated 21 years this year.&nbsp; Together they enjoyed visiting family and friends and running their Kettle Corn business at craft shows. Vernon "Gene" Eugene Spencer (1936-2021)

Ima Joyce Coe, 90, of North Platte, passed away at dawn September 10, 2021 at home surrounded by family. Joyce was born on March 14, 1931 in Hamlet, Nebraska. She was the eleventh child of Anna Clara Jäder and Samuel Clifford Ferguson, along with seven brothers and four sisters. Joyce and her sisters formed a strong supportive bond that lasted their entire lives. Raised in the Depression years, she remembers always working - at tasks of the home, baby sitting, at a movie theater or at a drug store soda fountain. After graduating as valedictorian of the Palisade High School class of 1949, Joyce attended Kearney State Teachers College where she earned a teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was at the elementary school in Cambridge, Nebraska. Mutual friends introduced Joyce to Rich Todd, a young teacher and new coach at Indianola High School and they married in 1952. Children soon followed; Rick, Julie, Joni and Gregg. The Todd family lived in North Platte, Nebraska where Joyce created a safe, rambunctious, loving home at the fondly remembered house on Maple Street. After divorce, Joyce pulled her life back together caring for others - her children, the kids of Roosevelt Elementary School as a teacher aide, and then as children's librarian at North Platte Public Library. For 23 years children delighted as Joyce welcomed them into the magic of reading and story telling. "I just love my job", she often shared. And the children whose curiosity she touched loved her. It wasn't uncommon for adults many years later to recognize the kindly librarian who read books to them when they were children. Joyce married DeWayne Coe in 1977. They moved to Lake Maloney where they enjoyed fishing, boating, and Joyce's growing family of grandchildren. Following DeWayne's passing after 30 years of marriage, Joyce filled her life with family, church, dear friends, P.E.O, bridge clubs, casino trips to play the slots, and doing what she loved most - caring for others. Joyce was a lover of education. Her favorite advice was "No matter what, you'll always have your education."&nbsp; She loved reading and flower-tending. She was a coveted bridge partner, a hot-handed dice roller and a quick wit. Most of all, Joyce was kind, compassionate, and caring, whose love flowed naturally and unconditionally to family, friends, and strangers. She fed, nurtured and cared for all who were fortunate to know her. For her children, grand children and great grand children she was the anchor and touchstone of the family. She will be so very, very missed, but with a heart void now filling with the love she gifted to the world. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and four sisters. Joyce is survived by her four children, Richard (Victoria) Todd, Julie Todd, Joni (Gonzalo) Gallegos, and Gregg (Florence) Todd; eight grandchildren, Gaylene Latham, Nathan Todd, Paul Todd, Ruthanna Autry, Isabella Gallegos, Liliana Gallegos, Lydia Gonzales, and Samuel Todd; great grand children Adam Latham and Austen Latham; and many nieces and nephews. Ima "Joyce" Coe (1931-2021)

Miriam Elsie Huebner, age 93, of North Platte, Nebraska, formerly of Hershey, Nebraska, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Linden Court in North Platte.

She was born on May 21, 1928 in York, Nebraska, daughter of Rev. Alfred and Lydia (Genz) Saeger. She lived in Malcolm, Nebraska until age 10 and then moved with her family to North Platte. On Dec. 28, 1947 she was married to Eugene A. Huebner. She and her husband Gene raised their family on the farm in Hershey, Nebraska. Following the death of her husband, Gene, in 2001, she eventually moved to Linden Court in 2013.

Miriam was baptized, confirmed and married in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She volunteered with the special needs class at Our Redeemer Lutheran and later with the ladies’ aid and bible study at Beautiful Savior Lutheran. She was very content throughout her life and worked very hard on the family farm. She had a great gift for hospitality, loved flowers, and birds, especially bluebirds and cardinals. She also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Nebraska Husker’s women’s volleyball fan. Miriam enjoyed telling stories about and spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Deb Knight (Dave) of Keystone, Nebraska; son, Tim Huebner (Barb) of Alberta, Canada; daughter-in-law, Diane Huebner of Hershey, Nebraska; grandchildren, Josh Knight (Nicky), Elijah Knight (Sirenia), Matt Huebner (Shelley), Jon Huebner (Kelley), Sarah Bischke (Mike), Lyndee Haertel (Chris), Jake Huebner (Kierra), Megan Van Newkirk (Kolby), and Kellen Hohman (Adam); 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Raymond of Windermere, FL; sisters-in-law, Joyce Saeger of Oviedo, FL, Margaret Myers of Bountiful, UT, Lois Huebner, Plainview, NE, and Helen Huebner of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Huebner; parents, Rev. Alfred and Lydia Saeger; sons, David and Gene P. Huebner; granddaughter, Korey Huebner; and brother, Rev. Alfred Saeger; brother-in-law, Dr. Harry P. Raymond.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Central Time at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in North Platte, Nebraska with Pastor Bob Deardoff officiating. Nancy was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Eileen (Schwensen) and David Benton which is where she grew up. She met Karl Bradley Jones and married him on November 19, 1978. They raised four children together. Karl Jones Jr of North Platte, Jason Jones of North Platte,&nbsp;Candace (William) Borah of Arnold, and William Jones of Big Springs Texas.&nbsp;&nbsp; Several Grandchildren Zoey, Harmony, Serenity, Chevey, Brandon, and Ladaisha.&nbsp; One Great Granddaughter Paisley.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a CNA at several nursing homes for over 23 years and loved what she did.&nbsp; Nancy had decided to donate her body to science in hopes that it would help someone else.&nbsp; There will be a Celebration of Life in Arnold on October 2nd, at 2:00 pm at 714 Cedar Street Arnold, NE. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.&nbsp;&nbsp; She passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Gary Wray Roth, age 74, of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Gary was born July 23, 1947 in Portsmouth, VA to parents Wray N. and Dewinta (McDowell) Roth.&nbsp; He was one of seven children.&nbsp; Gary graduated from high school in Palisade, NE with the Class of 1965.&nbsp; In 1966, Gary enlisted in the United States Navy.&nbsp; He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1970.&nbsp; At that time, Gary furthered his education by completing his Carpenter Journeyman’s Certificate at a trade school in Denver, CO. &nbsp;Following trade school, he began his career as a carpenter.&nbsp; He worked at many different businesses in McCook but his favorite job was managing the Wigwam (Student Union) at McCook Community College.&nbsp; On March 16, 1974, Gary married Christine (Salek) Roth in Denver. The couple became proud parents to three children:&nbsp; Janette, Michael and Sara.&nbsp; Gary became a certified scuba diver while serving in the Navy.&nbsp; He was a gunner’s mate on the Patrol Boat, Riverine “PBR”, as well as the boat’s scuba diver.&nbsp; One of his many responsibilities was to scuba dive into the rivers of Vietnam that they patrolled and destroy hidden weapons with plastic explosives.&nbsp; &nbsp; Gary continued to dive following his military discharge.&nbsp; Scuba diving with sharks at the Denver Aquarium and in the mountain lakes of Colorado were some of his favorite past times.&nbsp; Gary was also an accomplished artist who created beautiful oil paintings for his family members.&nbsp; He was a history buff and a jack of all trades who enjoyed classic cars, specifically the 1974 VW Super Beetle he worked to restore with his son Michael, cooking, baking, raising chickens and growing tomatoes with good friend Paul Ricley, remodeling homes, studying genealogy, race cars, singing, hunting, fishing and staying active in the lives of his grandkids.&nbsp; Gary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints as well as a decorated veteran whose accolades include the National Defense Service Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Hammond and John Hammond; and his sister, Celia Rose. Gary attended Linden Rural School and moved to town at age 10.&nbsp; In his freshman year, 1960, he moved to Ft. Calhoun and graduated from high school there with the class of 1964.&nbsp; Gary was drafted in November of 1965 into the United States Army and served one year in Vietnam.&nbsp; He received a purple heart for wounds received in action on February 25, 1967.&nbsp; He spent the remaining time of his enlistment at Ft. Riley, Kansas and left service as a Sergeant (E5).&nbsp; Gary then began a 34-year career with Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 2005. Gary married Jeanie Wilson (Ogallala, NE) in 1968 at the Little Church in Keystone, NE. &nbsp;They made their home in North Platte and from this union two children were born, Angie Thies and Danny Thies.&nbsp; They were married for 53 years. Gary A Thies (1945-2021)

On Thursday November 12, 2020, Kyle (KD) McLaughlin lost his battle with cancer at the age of 65. Kyle was born on January 31,1955, in Lexington, Nebraska, to parents, Larry and LaVon McLaughlin. The family moved to Cozad in 1964. They owned and operated Macs Music, where Kyle worked with his father moving pianos and appliances, and worked retail with his mother. He graduated in the class of 1973 from Cozad High School where Kyle was active in journalism, chorus and band, playing the trombone. In the mid-1970’s, Kyle attended Hastings College as well as Central Tech Community College where he worked in the auto parts department and studied mechanical engineering. Kyle was chosen to work as an apprentice in Detroit, Michigan, for General Motors, but the love of music prevailed. A gifted and talented musician, Kyle loved the blues, playing the piano and harmonica in numerous bands throughout Nebraska. Bands included The Blues Infectors, One Size Fits Most and Out of the Blue to name a few. In his journey, Kyle worked for Evans bakery, a saw mill where he manufactured power poles, Inland Parts delivering auto parts, and Seward Coop where he was employed for 17 years. Irish-born and full of confidence and charisma, Kyle had an impeccable wit and memory, was well-read and was a great storyteller. With a toothpick behind his ear and wearing black and white converse shoes Kyle could draw a crowd and make friends easily. A master of crossword puzzles, with a love for vintage cars, especially Studebakers, and a pet “dad” to Murphy and Paddy, Kyle had a passion for the blues, lived his life his way, and loved his many friends, especially his neighbors Kylie and Matt Joyce, who were like family to him. Kyle and his fellow musicians reunited annually at Comtestock Jam in Columbus, Nebraska. Left behind are his great love and fiancé, Diane Biesecker, her son Eric Biesecker, and grandchildren Kylie and Kayce, as well as his uncle, Earl Potter, and numerous cousins. Diane says, “Play those ivories, and rock that great gig in the sky, my love.” A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 2909 Twin Lakes Drive, Cozad, NE. Inurnment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Cemetery, northeast of Cozad.

Barbara Ann Jones, 68, of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 5th, 2021, in Cozad, Nebraska. Barbara is survived by her mother Julia Jones (Bruno); her two brothers Thomas Jones Jr. and Terry Jones; her only child, Jaime Bowen (Christian) and Jaime’s husband Bradley; her four grandchildren Ashley, Hailey, Brianna, and Lucas; her two great-grandchildren Haven and Enzo; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Barbara is proceeded in death by her father Thomas Jones Sr. Barbara was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on June 27th, 1953, to Thomas Jones and Julia Jones and grew up in Acton, Pennsylvania. She was the middle daughter of three children. She graduated with a nursing degree from Lasell University in Massachusetts in 1981 and continued her studies at Azusa Pacific University in California. She worked as a nurse for many years in hospitals, assisted living facilities, and prisons. Barbara also worked as a computer programmer for Martin Marietta. She welcomed her daughter, Jaime, into the world on June 13th, 1978. Barbara cared greatly for her friends and family as well as the many patients she served over the years. Barbara had such an infectious laugh; it was hard to not laugh with her at the silliest of jokes. Her heart was huge and the love she felt for her family was tremendous; there was nothing she would not do for them. She enjoyed telling stories of her life from growing up, traveling the world, raising a family, and the different patients she encountered in her line of work. She was an extremely determined individual and fought hard until the very end even after surviving a fight with cancer. Her family is spread out across the country, she spent her life living on the East Coast as well as in California and Colorado. Genealogy was important to Barbara, so she spent a lot of time tracing her family history to learn where they all came from. At the end of the day, family was the most important thing to her. Barbara was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was called “nana” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was important for her to live freely as she was a very free-spirited and outspoken person. She would want all of us to find the beauty in life and focus on the moment instead of being sad over things that cannot be changed. She will be deeply missed by all her friends, family, and anyone who knew her. Cremation was chosen. There will be no service.

Barbara Ann Jones (1953-2021)

William Robert Alexander (Billy), age 26 of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at his home in Cozad. William was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Regina L. Alexander.&nbsp; He grew up in Cozad, Nebraska, but always held true to his Michigan roots. You could ask him where home was and he would proudly tell you Michigan. He loved the Wolverines and was always rooting for them, even when they would go up against the Huskers. His children were his greatest passion in life. He was a natural father, and that shone through when he was with them. All three of his children were his pride and joy’s, and it wasn’t uncommon for him to be seen hugging on them, or chasing them around in the backyard. William had many hobbies, among them being his love for cooking. He was always cooking up “concoctions” in the kitchen. At times they seemed so farfetched, and you couldn’t imagine how these flavors could possibly pair well together, but they always did. He was also an avid gamer. Racing games were his favorite and he was proud of his high stats. He loved cars and he shared that love with his children. He was a fan of the Fast and Furious movies. And the latest in the series, “Fast 9” really spoke to William’s soul. He loved the message about family that movie portrayed. Music was a part of his soul and he always seemed to have a new song to share. He was an artist in many ways, whether that be his freestyling to a beat, picking up a pen, or drawing with the chalk in the backyard with his children. William was a unique soul. He didn’t let anyone else influence him, and wasn’t afraid to be his true self. He was always there any time he was needed, without even asking questions. He had a big heart and a smile that was unforgettable. He would extend a hand of friendship to anyone. He did not care who you were. He had a FULL personality and was always seen smiling. He had a quirky sense of humor and could make you laugh even when you were upset, in fact, that was a specialty of his. He was a wise guy and always cracking jokes and smiling. Or smirking.  </figure>William Robert Alexander (Billy), age 26 of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at his home in Cozad. William was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Regina L. Alexander.&nbsp; He grew up in Cozad, Nebraska, but always held true to his Michigan roots. You could ask him where home was and he would proudly tell you Michigan. He loved the Wolverines and was always rooting for them, even when they would go up against the Huskers. His children were his greatest passion in life. He was a natural father, and that shone through when he was with them. All three of his children were his pride and joy’s, and it wasn’t uncommon for him to be seen hugging on them, or chasing them around in the backyard. William had many hobbies, among them being his love for cooking. He was always cooking up “concoctions” in the kitchen. At times they seemed so farfetched, and you couldn’t imagine how these flavors could possibly pair well together, but they always did. He was also an avid gamer. Racing games were his favorite and he was proud of his high stats. He loved cars and he shared that love with his children. He was a fan of the Fast and Furious movies. And the latest in the series, “Fast 9” really spoke to William’s soul. He loved the message about family that movie portrayed. Music was a part of his soul and he always seemed to have a new song to share. He was an artist in many ways, whether that be his freestyling to a beat, picking up a pen, or drawing with the chalk in the backyard with his children. William was a unique soul. He didn’t let anyone else influence him, and wasn’t afraid to be his true self. He was always there any time he was needed, without even asking questions. He had a big heart and a smile that was unforgettable. He would extend a hand of friendship to anyone. He did not care who you were. He had a FULL personality and was always seen smiling. He had a quirky sense of humor and could make you laugh even when you were upset, in fact, that was a specialty of his. He was a wise guy and always cracking jokes and smiling. Or smirking. KERMIT D. BROCKMOLLER, 90, of Ogallala, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Wel-Life Assisted Living in Ogallala, Nebraska. Kermit was born in Big Springs, Nebraska, on November 19, 1930, to Wilhelm and Johanna Brockmoller. Kermit served in the United States Marine Corps as MP in Kodiak, Alaska, from 1951 to 1953. On October 11, 1954, he married Marjorie Uzel, and for a few years, they made their home in Milford, NE, where Kermit attended Milford Vocational Technical School. They then moved to Ogallala, where Kermit worked for TRW and ASC until his retirement in 1995. Kermit enjoyed woodworking and carving, hunting and fishing, and spoiling his grandchildren. Survived by two daughters, Brenda Thompson, Kimberly (Jim) Lingbloom, and one son, Bill Brockmoller; Five grandchildren, Tami (Jason) Beauchamp, Kellon (Kaylee) Thompson, Shelby (Dustin) Shelley, Tish (Mike) Jimenez, Jill Lingbloom; four great-grandchildren, Natalee, Jackson, Tucker, and Mason; two sisters, Bonnie Dixon and Wilma Blake. Phyllis&nbsp;Franken, age 86, of North Platte, died at Linden Court on September 8, 2021. Phyllis was born to Lloyd and Doris Danielson on April 8, 1935, in North Platte and grew up in Sutherland. She graduated from high school in 1953 then attended Kearney State College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught at District 34, near Keystone, for two years. On July 17, 1954, Phyllis married Ray A. Franken at Sutherland and they made their home in Roscoe. After the couple divorced, Phyllis returned to Sutherland and went to work for Sutherland Care. Six years later she started her career with Great Plains Regional Medical Center and eventually moved to North Platte in 1988. She worked at the hospital for 21 years and 5 months before retiring in August 2001. Phyllis married Robert Rice in 1977 and they also divorced. She had attended Lutheran churches in Sutherland and North Platte and volunteered at the Lincoln County Historical Museum. Phyllis loved growing her flowers and enjoyed knitting, embroidery and quilting. She especially loved her cat, Charlie, and spending time with her family and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Doris Danielson; her son, Michael Franken; sister, Patricia Boggs; her ex-husbands, Ray Franken and Robert Rice; and great great-granddaughter, Judith Franken. Phyllis is survived by her children, Norman (Kathy) Franken, of North Platte, William (Becky) Franken, of Chappell, Terri (Kim) Zajec, of Big Springs, and Brent (Teressa) Franken, of Wood River; her sister, Katheryn Coker, of Waco, TX; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and other family. Rand joined the Marine Corp in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington and in law enforcement in Los Angeles, California, Nevada, and Arizona.&nbsp; He married Mary Lou Pearson and they later divorced. He married Karen Gallagher in 1970. Rand is survived by his wife Karen of Sun City, Arizona; daughter, Lori and husband Lee Mattingly of Henderson, Navada; son, Lincoln of Denver, CO; Grandchildren Mathew of Henderson, Nevada and Mary of Highland, CA; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Pam Slack of Gothenburg; good friends and neighbors, Steve Mastosia, Tim Thompson, and Doug and Robin Akins all of Arizona; and his constant furry companion, Clyde. David Hilferty, 76, of Madrid, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant. David was born October 8, 1944, at Grant, Nebraska, to Charles and Helen (Andersen) Hilferty. He graduated from Madrid High School with the class of 1963, where he was a stand-out athlete. David graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in history. David taught and coached for five years at Grant Junior High School; as well as farmed south of Madrid. Many of the students he impacted affectionately referred to him as "Coach," even into adulthood. On September 17, 1982, David married Lynda Midcap. The couple made their home in Grant, moving to the farm in 2012. David was a member of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association and the Ethanol Board. David loved a good game of cards and traveling whenever he got the chance. David was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Kiplyn Hopkins; twin sister, Dona Vasa; Brothers-in-law, Keith Nelson, Jack Glunz, and Gary Day; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Hilferty. Survivors include his wife, Lynda of Madrid; children, Kellie Kava of North Platte and her daughter, Brittany; Traci (Sam) Lee of Madrid and their children, Brady, Hudson, and Thomas; Kristi Hopkins of Fort Collins, CO, and her children, Kim and Brock; Travis Hopkins of Phoenix, AZ and his children Preston, Lily, and Peyton. David Hilferty (1944-2021)

Gary Dean Berges, 75, of North Platte, passed away September 2, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; Gary was born March 6, 1946, in Holyoke, Colorado to Alfred and Opal (Crumm) Berges.&nbsp; Gary graduated from Holyoke High School, Holyoke, Colorado with the class of 1964.&nbsp; On April 19, 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Charlene Newcomb in Cheyenne, Wyoming.&nbsp; To this union three children were born.&nbsp; &nbsp;The couple lived in Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming where Gary worked at the Dodge Chrysler dealership.&nbsp; In 1969, the couple moved to North Platte where Gary worked for McKay Motors for many years, then moved to Texas where he worked for a dealership there. &nbsp;In 1999, they moved back to Ogallala, Nebraska when he started truck driving for Dahlsten Trucking and Pile Trucking. Gary loved to be around people and with his family.&nbsp; He enjoyed his many friends and liked reconnecting with them.&nbsp; He loved to be on the lake fishing, hunting and his hunting dogs.&nbsp; Gary is survived by his wife, Charlene, of North Platte; 3 children, Leslie (Randy) Sherman, Texas, Allen (Jennifer) Berges, Ft. Lupton, Colorado, Steven (Kim Blunt) Berges, North Platte, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, Evan, Ayslyn, Kaya, Misty, Gary Paul; 4 great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Grayson, Kevin, and Drew; along with numerous other family and friends.  </figure>Gary Dean Berges, 75, of North Platte, passed away September 2, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; Gary was born March 6, 1946, in Holyoke, Colorado to Alfred and Opal (Crumm) Berges.&nbsp; Gary graduated from Holyoke High School, Holyoke, Colorado with the class of 1964.&nbsp; On April 19, 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Charlene Newcomb in Cheyenne, Wyoming.&nbsp; To this union three children were born.&nbsp; &nbsp;The couple lived in Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming where Gary worked at the Dodge Chrysler dealership.&nbsp; In 1969, the couple moved to North Platte where Gary worked for McKay Motors for many years, then moved to Texas where he worked for a dealership there. &nbsp;In 1999, they moved back to Ogallala, Nebraska when he started truck driving for Dahlsten Trucking and Pile Trucking. Gary loved to be around people and with his family.&nbsp; He enjoyed his many friends and liked reconnecting with them.&nbsp; He loved to be on the lake fishing, hunting and his hunting dogs.&nbsp; Gary is survived by his wife, Charlene, of North Platte; 3 children, Leslie (Randy) Sherman, Texas, Allen (Jennifer) Berges, Ft. Lupton, Colorado, Steven (Kim Blunt) Berges, North Platte, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, Evan, Ayslyn, Kaya, Misty, Gary Paul; 4 great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Grayson, Kevin, and Drew; along with numerous other family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Opal Berges and brother Roy Berges. A memorial has been established to Great Plains Hospice, Great Plains Health, North Platte, Nebraska. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. (mountain time) on Friday, September 10, 2021 at New Life Church, 700 Foxhill Rd, Ogallala, Nebraska, with Pastor Dave Cumming officiating.&nbsp; Visitation and memorial book signing will be Thursday, September 9th&nbsp;from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements.&nbsp; Online condolences and sharing of memories may be directed to www.adamsswanson.com.&nbsp;
