Dorothy “Dotty” A. Mathers, 78, of North Platte, NE passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Azria Health Centennial Park. Dotty was born on November 12, 1944, at Dr. White’s Hospital in Garnett, KS. She was the sixth of eight children born to Albert and Catherine (Wilper) Hermann.&nbsp; Dotty grew up in rural Westphalia, KS on the family farm. An opinionated and outspoken thorn in the side of her older siblings and especially to her older brother Frank, Dotty could be found drawing and painting in her spare time she had. Dotty enjoyed sewing and was an excellent cook when her mother needed help. Dotty attended elementary school at St Teresa’s Grade School and graduated from Westphalia High School with the class of 1962. A traveler at heart, Dotty worked in many locations between Kansas and California before settling in North Platte, NE to welcome her family. She ran a daycare for children in her home for many years. She was a foster mom to many children alongside her beloved son and daughter. She was also a home health aide for the elderly for several years, before becoming a railway crew driver for Union Pacific Railroad until failing health forced her into retirement. She was always interested in nutrition and in practicing her religious faith. She enjoyed traveling to Garnett with her son to visit family and enjoyed reminiscing about growing up on the farm. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is fondly remembered by her son, Dwane Mathers of North Platte; daughter, Deanna Mathers of North Platte; granddaughter, Kayla Mathers; 4 great- grandchildren; sisters, Mary David of St. Paul, KS and Sr. Alberta Hermann OSB of Atchinson, KS; brothers, Richard and Clarence Hermann both of Garnett, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Catherine Hermann, and brothers, Al, Frank, and Harold Hermann.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in North Platte. Private family graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Teresa Cemetery in Westphalia, KS. All those who attend are welcome to join the family in the St Teresa Catholic Church basement following the committal service.

2023, at Methodist Fremont Health. She was born March 26, 1924, in 
Alexandria, NE to Otto and Inez (Oaks) Polage. 
She was raised on the farm near Alexandria. She married Edward James 
Nuding and they lived in various places due to the military. Some of 
those places were Hebron, NE and California before coming to Fremont. 
Edward died in 1997. She married Peter Pauley October 29, 2003, in 
Fremont; he died December 26, 2011. 
She is survived by her son, Mark (Linda) Nuding; daughter, Elaine 
(Walter) Dryden all of Fremont; sister Gladys Schweer of North Platte, 
NE; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 9 
great-great-grandchildren. 
Erma was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Phillip Nuding; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Erma F. Pauley (1924-2023)

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Karen Sue Richards of North Platte, NE on April 3 2023, at the age of 81 years.

Karen was born on May 31st, 1941 in Brighton, CO to William and Francis Clifton.&nbsp; She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and school in Ogallala, NE.&nbsp; After school, she entered the work force and started her family shortly after.&nbsp; Karen loved her family deeply. Some of her favorite times were when most of the family was able to get together.&nbsp; She especially loved her Christmas shopping trip every year with her four daughters.

Karen married the love of her life, Douglas, on October 17th, 1973.&nbsp; They would have celebrated their 50th&nbsp;wedding anniversary this year.&nbsp; Dad loved spoiling mom right up to the end.&nbsp; He gave her a necklace just days before her passing.&nbsp; Mom was a giver too.&nbsp; She absolutely loved giving gifts as was evident during Christmas time.&nbsp;

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Douglas, of nearly 50 years; children: Allan (Annie) Hottovy of Nashville TN, Mike (Deb) Hottovy of Geneva OH, Jackie (Josh) Whisler of Peru NE, Randy (and the late Chris) Hottovy of Elgin IL, Toni (Jeff) Bomberger of Curtis NE, Teresa (Kevin) Hafer of North Platte NE, and Michelle (Terry) Myers of Cheyenne WY; brother, Bob (Jean) Raney of Overton NE, sister, Nancy (Catalino) Vasquez of Sutherland NE; brother-in-laws, Charles (Kathy) Richards of CO, Skip (Iola) Richards of Torrington WY, Randy Richards of Lyman, NE; sister-in-laws, Kim (Greg) Schmidt of Torrington WY; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren as well as numerous relatives and friends.

 was a manager at Goodrich Dairy and then worked in the fabric 
department at Walmart. She was a member of the Eagles Aerie #592 
Auxiliary where she was very active. Sharon enjoyed playing 
shuffleboard, sewing, quilting, gardening, crocheting, listening to 
country music, and attending auctions and garage sales. She loved 
spending her time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s 
activities.

Sharon K. Morganflash (1944-2023)

Richard Christian Reitz, 91, beloved father and husband, of Mesa, 
Arizona, formerly of Casper, Wyoming, passed away on Wednesday, March 29,
 2023. 

Dick was born the eldest of four children on November 26, 1931, in 
North Platte, Nebraska, to Christian and Rosa Reitz. He grew up in the 
Paxton community on the family farm south of town.  He graduated from 
Paxton High School in 1949 then attended the University of Colorado and 
graduated with a Bachelors Degree in English in 1953. Dick joined the 
United States Navy and served as a journalist from 1953 to 1955. He met 
and married Phyllis Ann Parker on July 23, 1955, in Maine and he earned a
 Masters degree in English Literature from Middlebury College in 1960. 


Dick and Phyllis had two daughters, Delia and Jill. He dearly loved his 
wife and daughters and the young family enjoyed many long trips camping 
and traveling together during the summers. Dick had a long and 
successful career as an English teacher, division chair, and 
administrator at Casper College. After retirement, Dick and Phyllis 
travelled full time throughout North America for nine years in their 
motor home.

Dick was an accomplished photographer and owned and piloted his own 
airplane. He  was also an active hunter and fly fisherman and enjoyed 
the outdoors. He later became an author and published his books of 
autobiography (“Home” and “Leaving Lakehouse”), poetry (“Shortgrass 
Prairie” and “Prairie, Mountain, Desert and Beyond”), and hunting and 
fishing (“Internal Landscape, External Reality”).

Richard C. Reitz is survived by his wife Phyllis Reitz, of Mesa, 
Arizona, daughter Jill (Jerry) Sullivan, of Tucson, Arizona, brother 
Michael Reitz, of Rockledge, Florida, sister in law Nancy Michaels, of 
North Platte, Nebraska, two nephews, six nieces and many dear friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Delia Reitz, 
sister Rosalee Lewis, brother Timothy Reitz, sister-in law Isabell 
Reitz, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dick’s ashes will be scattered at his beloved Alcova Reservoir in 
Natrona County, Wyoming where he enjoyed boating and where he spent many
 happy years with family and friends.

 2023. Dick was born the eldest of four children on November 26, 1931, in 
North Platte, Nebraska, to Christian and Rosa Reitz. He grew up in the 
Paxton community on the family farm south of town. He graduated from 
Paxton High School in 1949 then attended the University of Colorado and 
graduated with a Bachelors Degree in English in 1953. Dick joined the 
United States Navy and served as a journalist from 1953 to 1955. He met 
and married Phyllis Ann Parker on July 23, 1955, in Maine and he earned a
 Masters degree in English Literature from Middlebury College in 1960. 
Dick and Phyllis had two daughters, Delia and Jill. He dearly loved his 
wife and daughters and the young family enjoyed many long trips camping 
and traveling together during the summers. Dick had a long and 
successful career as an English teacher, division chair, and 
administrator at Casper College. After retirement, Dick and Phyllis 
travelled full time throughout North America for nine years in their 
motor home.Dick was an accomplished photographer and owned and piloted his own 
airplane. He was also an active hunter and fly fisherman and enjoyed 
the outdoors. He later became an author and published his books of 
autobiography (“Home” and “Leaving Lakehouse”), poetry (“Shortgrass 
Prairie” and “Prairie, Mountain, Desert and Beyond”), and hunting and 
fishing (“Internal Landscape, External Reality”).Richard C. Reitz is survived by his wife Phyllis Reitz, of Mesa, 
Arizona, daughter Jill (Jerry) Sullivan, of Tucson, Arizona, brother 
Michael Reitz, of Rockledge, Florida, sister in law Nancy Michaels, of 
North Platte, Nebraska, two nephews, six nieces and many dear friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Delia Reitz, 
sister Rosalee Lewis, brother Timothy Reitz, sister-in law Isabell 
Reitz, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.Dick’s ashes will be scattered at his beloved Alcova Reservoir in 
Natrona County, Wyoming where he enjoyed boating and where he spent many

Geraldine Louise “Gerry” Swarthout, 94, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away April 4, 2023 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. She was born February 10, 1929 to John and Ethel (Detty) Favinger in Wallace, Nebraska.

She grew up in Wallace.&nbsp; Geraldine worked at the Pawnee Hotel and a local dress shop in North Platte.&nbsp; On August 17, 1970 she was united in marriage to Finton Swarthout in Newcastle, Wyoming.&nbsp; Finton preceded her in death on August 22, 1997.&nbsp; Gerry’s favorite pastime was shopping and fashionable clothes. Faith was very important to her and she was a prayer warrior at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.&nbsp; She enjoyed dancing, birds, and illuminated flowers.&nbsp; Gerry will always be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Linda Kaldenberg, Littleton, Colorado, Larry (Rochelle) Fletcher, North Platte, Nebraska, Russ (fiancé Launa Erickson) McCarter, Ramsey, Minnesota, Lori Sargent, North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Cindy Miller, Angie (Chris) Orlowski, Matt Kaldenberg, Travis (Liz) Fletcher, Teresa (fiance’ Austin Kramer) Evans, Hunter (Ronnell) Swain, Lakyn (Jamil) Alexis, Sawyer McCarter, Cayd McCarter, Eric Sargent, Jacob Sargent, Casey (Tacey) Sargent; great-grandchildren, Dakota (Drew), MaKenna, Brayden, Kaleigh, Kaden, Rowan, Wren, Lainee, Logan, Coltan, Mia, Leilani, Laylah, R.J., Eliana, Ja’Naya, JaeLani, Aevyn, Willow, Quincy, Kai Michael, Leilani Jo, Liam, Peyton, Tripp, Renley Mae; 1 great-great grandchild, Scarlett; along with numerous other family members and many friends.

Geraldine L. Swarthout (1929-2023)

Randal S. “Randy” Keith, 67, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island.&nbsp;

He was born on August 23, 1955, in North Platte, Nebraska to Fred and Zella Mae (Stevenson) Keith. He attended public schools in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1973. While in high school, Randy worked at Gibson’s Discount Store where he would meet the love of his life, Susan.&nbsp;

On May 29, 1976, Randy was united in marriage to Susan Pooschke in Stapleton, Nebraska at Susan’s parents’ home. The family made their home in North Platte where Randy was employed at Firestone for a few years before he would take a job with for the state with the Nebraska Department of Roads. In 1984, the family moved to Lexington where Randy would work his way up to Maintenance Supervisor, before retiring in 2017.&nbsp;

Randy was a part of a musically inclined family. They all loved to sing, and Randal was an exceptional guitar player. He was also a great bowler. He loved spending time with his friends at the bowling alley and was also a youth bowling coach and alongside his brother, Tim they formed and started The High and Bye travel league. It was rare to drive past Randal’s house and not see an impeccable yard and him sitting there on the porch. If he wasn’t outside, he was inside watching Wheel of Fortune.&nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Susan of Lexington; son, Dustin (Keri) Pooschke of Overton; daughters, Heather (Greg) Sentelle and Samantha (Eric Blessing) Keith, both of Lexington; fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Ted (Linda) Keith of North Platte; sister, Beth (Willy) Mann of Milford; sisters-in-law, Peggy ( Kenny) Kramer of Stapleton, Jackie (Gary) Herbst of North Platte, and Susan Keith of Kearney; his beloved dog, Zoey; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.&nbsp;

Besides his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his in-laws, Ivan and Rose Pooschke; brother, Tim Keith; his daughter, Lyla; brother-in-law, Rodney Pooschke, Aunt Marion (Hank) Keith, and his doggie Sadi Mae.

Randal S. Keith (1955-2023)

Rosalie “Rose” M. Desmond, age 91, formerly of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society of Oberlin, KS. She was born in Wilsonville, NE on January 20, 1932, to Earl and Lizzie Belle (Bates) Palmer.&nbsp; Rose attended and graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1950. Rose was united in marriage to Bennie G. Desmond on July 24, 1951. To this union three children were born: Bennie JR, Dannie, and Marilyn.

Rose attended and graduated from the McCook Beauty College and opened her own shop in Cambridge. She and Bennie moved to McCook in 1974 and opened Westside Beauty and Barber. After retirement the couple lived at Brookdale in McCook until their health declined, when they moved to Oberlin to be close to family.

Rose had an infectious personality and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. &nbsp;She followed her kids and grandkids programs and sporting events. &nbsp;She was the rock of the family, patient and solid in her foundation. Rose was a member of the McCook Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; sisters, Ila (LeRoy) Potter, Gail (Gail) Kasson; brother, Darrell Palmer; brother-in-law, Jerry Bennett.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Marilyn and husband Steve Diederich of Oberlin, KS; two sons, Bennie Jr. and wife Rhonda Desmond of Torrington, WY, Dannie and wife Terri Desmond of Lincoln, NE; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Joan Bennett of Cozad; sister-in-law, June Palmer of Wilsonville, NE.

Rosalie May Desmond (1932-2023)

Jerry D. Stupka, of Trenton, was born August 10, 1938, on a farm north of Stratton to Mary (Sis) and William Stupka. He attended country school and Stratton High School.&nbsp;

On May 28, 1959, Jerry married Rita Janousek at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton, Nebraska, of which he later became a member. Three children were born to this union. Jerry and Rita built a rich life together in Trenton. Jerry and Rita enjoyed their travels to visit friends and family across the country and were blessed to journey to Mexico, Canada, the Czech Republic, and Ireland. Jerry loved the soup in Ireland.&nbsp;

Jerry was active in community affairs and served on the Trenton Fire Department, Trenton Village Board, and the El Dorado Nursing Home Board. At the time of his death, he was serving on the Hitchcock County Museum Board, the Court Street Villa Board, and the Trenton Planning Commission.

Jerry wore many hats during his lifetime, including farmer, service station owner, over-the-road truck driver, oil field worker, and grocery store owner. Collecting and restoring John Deere was a passion for many years. He loved dogs, especially his special pal, Brandi the border collie. He was an excellent mechanic and an accomplished welder. He was able to repair nearly anything.

Jerry passed away at his home in Trenton on Sunday April 2, 2023. He was 84 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and William; and sister, Irene Maybell. Surviving are his wife, Rita; sons, Scott (Brenda) of Anselmo, Nebraska and Stuart (Melissa) of Hays, Kansas; daughter Stacy of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Brandon of Greeley, Colorado, Danielle Gilligan (Tyler) of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Keenan of Anselmo, Kassandra Speer of Long Island, Kansas, Kelsey Schoen (Jason) of Hays, and Cecilia and Tristan Burda of Lincoln; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Jerry never met a stranger, he had a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke with friends and family. He was a favorite person of many and we shall miss him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2023, from 5PM-7PM at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton.&nbsp; A rosary will be recited following the visitation at 7PM.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, April 10, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton with Father Gary Brethour celebrating.&nbsp; Interment will follow services in St. Cemetery in Trenton.

Jerry D. Stupka (1938-2023)

James Russell Forney, 72, of Madrid, passed away at home on April 1, 2023. Jim was born November 20, 1950, at Aurora, Nebraska, to Arthur and Francis (Peak) Forney. He attended school in Rollins, WY. Jim's strong work ethic developed early in his life, working as a ranch hand in his youth. He subsequently entered the US. Army. In 1971, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy Ann Minerd, who supported him during his military service. Their marriage was blessed with four children before their eventual divorce in 1991. Jim served his country with honor and distinction in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Throughout his 20-year military career, he spent nine years in Germany and mastered six languages, showcasing his intelligence and adaptability. As a supply sergeant, he played a vital role in supporting his fellow troops. Following his military retirement in 1989, Jim continued to work hard, spending a few years with the railroad. In 2007, he returned to Madrid to care for his aging parents. Jim enjoyed gardening and helping his cousin, Dave, with construction work. He spent a great deal of time doing housework, but fishing was his ultimate joy. With a collection of 40 fishing poles and 30 tackle boxes, he was always ready to cast a line. Known for his eclectic taste in music, Jim enjoyed everything from truck-driving tunes to the hits of the 1950s.  </figure>James Russell Forney, 72, of Madrid, passed away at home on April 1, 2023. Jim was born November 20, 1950, at Aurora, Nebraska, to Arthur and Francis (Peak) Forney. He attended school in Rollins, WY. Jim's strong work ethic developed early in his life, working as a ranch hand in his youth. He subsequently entered the US. Army. In 1971, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy Ann Minerd, who supported him during his military service. Their marriage was blessed with four children before their eventual divorce in 1991. Jim served his country with honor and distinction in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Throughout his 20-year military career, he spent nine years in Germany and mastered six languages, showcasing his intelligence and adaptability. As a supply sergeant, he played a vital role in supporting his fellow troops. Following his military retirement in 1989, Jim continued to work hard, spending a few years with the railroad. In 2007, he returned to Madrid to care for his aging parents. Jim enjoyed gardening and helping his cousin, Dave, with construction work. He spent a great deal of time doing housework, but fishing was his ultimate joy. With a collection of 40 fishing poles and 30 tackle boxes, he was always ready to cast a line. Known for his eclectic taste in music, Jim enjoyed everything from truck-driving tunes to the hits of the 1950s. James Forney (1950-2023)

Richard Franklin Bowers, 88, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 in Colorado Springs.

Mr. Richard Franklin Bowers "Dick" was born in Center, CO on September 30th, 1934 to Bryan and Florence (Stone) Bowers. He grew up in San Luis Valley, a farming area of Center, where he completed high school. After attending the Colorado School of Mines for two years and working with a construction firm for a short while in Ogallala, NE, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1956. Dick ultimately became a helicopter pilot after prestigious training at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. He served successfully in Vietnam as a search and rescue pilot flying off aircraft carriers. From 1967 to 1969 he completed his college degree in political science at the Naval Postgraduate school in Monterey,CA, while transitioning to a career as a Naval Intelligence Officer. He served primarily at DOD and USN intelligence commands in the Washington D.C. area during the second half of his military career. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1977, settling in northern Virginia. Dick survived his first wife in 1997, and subsequently married his sweetheart Esther Jeffrey Hoover, whom he dated in 1955 in Ogallala, NE. They both felt getting back together was a deep, blessed miracle. Esther and Richard had a wonderful marriage from 1997 until present, enjoying their families and life together in the Colorado Springs area for almost 26 years.

Richard is survived by 4 children (and their spouses/partners) from Esther's first marriage; Doug (Mickey), Shelly (Michael), Kevin (Shelli), and Dana (Randy); and his son Michael (Addie) from Richard's first marriage. In addition, Esther and Dick have 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Judy, and twin sons who did not survive after birth in 1962.

Funeral Services will be Monday, April 10th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, NE with Reverend Curt Magelky of the First United Methodist Church of Ogallala officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday, April 10th, 2023 at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel.

Arthur “Dale” Johnson, 89, of North Platte, NE passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Linden Court.

Dale was born on November 17, 1933 in Wellfleet, NE the son of Edward Earl and Helen Barbara (Szyszkowski) Johnson.

Dale was a graduate of North Platte High School, class of 1951.&nbsp; He married Beverly Jean Blum on June 10, 1956 in Grant, NE and together they had four children.&nbsp; He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1956 to 1962.&nbsp; Dale worked as a central office technician with Northwestern Bell Telephone for 41 years, retiring in 1993.&nbsp; He was a member of First United Methodist Church, North Platte Woodcarvers, Telephone Pioneers, and RSVP.&nbsp; He enjoyed woodcarving and fishing as well as finding a good bargain at local rummage sales.&nbsp; He loved being a grandpa and spending time with all his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Beverly; children, Randy (Karen) Johnson of Windsor, CO, Kathy (John) Wroot of North Platte, Steve (Barbie) Johnson of Raytown, MO, and Susan (Buck) Hood of North Platte; grandchildren, Scott Johnson, Kate Johnson, Casey (Brooke) Wroot, Kylie Wroot, Kade Wroot, Emily Johnson, Jessica Johnson, and Jenna Hood; brother-in-law, Jim Blum; and several nieces and nephews.

Arthur "Dale" Johnson (1933-2023)

Ona Pauline Glaubitz, age 71, of Neosho, Missouri, formerly of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away at 10:26 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She was born January 3, 1951, in Westfir, Lane County, Oregon, to the late Paul Glenn and Hazel Madonna (Davis) Maranville.

On September 6, 1969, she married Donald Glaubitz in North Platte, Nebraska. He survives her of the home.

Ona worked as a scale operator for Las Vegas Paving Company. She and Don moved to Neosho from Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2013 and made it their home. She loved sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Don, she is survived by her two sons, Richard Glaubitz and his wife, Angie of Granby, Missouri, and Lemuel Glaubitz and his wife, Megan, of Webb City, Missouri; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Maranville of Neosho; one sister Anita “Sue” Hengen of N. Platte, Nebraska; and her beloved pets.&nbsp;

He worked for the family masonry business after graduating from St. Ann’s High School in 1975. That same year, Mike received the gift of a second birthday in June when his father donated a kidney to him after a serious illness.

Eventually, he attended Southeast Community College in Hastings, NE where he earned his degree in Biomedical Technology and went to work for the Dialysis Center in Lincoln, where he retired after 30 years in 2021.

Mike married Susan (Raney) in 1980 and together they welcomed three sons. Not only was Mike a devoted husband, his children and grandchildren were the highlights of his life. He was always happiest when he could spend time with them, hunting, fishing or playing golf.

Mike is survived by his wife Susan; sons: Jason (Natalie); Andrew (Angela), and Michael; grandsons: Austin, Owen, Desmond, and Theo all of Lincoln; father; Martin Schwarz; brothers: Dean Schwarz, Dennis (Vonda) Schwarz of Lexington; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Schwarz.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a wake service to follow at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Michael Lee Schwarz (1957-2023)

On the morning of March 27, 2023, Marvin Merl Hunt passed away at the Lexington Regional Hospital. Upon passing, Marvin was 89 years old. He passed away peacefully from natural causes. Marvin was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

Marvin was born on January 29, 1934, in Arcadia, Nebraska to Sidney and Leota (Summers) Hunt. He graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1951. On December 21, 1952, Marvin married the love of his life, Joellen Burns in Reno, Nevada. Five children were blessed to this union: Teresa, Steve, David, Mark and Patrick.

Marvin proudly served in the Naval Air Force during the Korean War. He served two tours of Duty on the Yorktown and Princeton Aircraft carriers as a 3rd&nbsp;class petty officer. He was incredibly proud of his time in the Naval Air Force, and it held a special place in his heart to serve his country.

Following his discharge, Marvin moved back to Arcadia where he worked on the family farm. In 1959 they moved to Lexington where he started working for the hay mills. In 1968, he became the owner of a local business called Service Supply Company where he gained a faithful clientele due to his hard work, integrity and great service. He would continue working for his company for the next 55 years. &nbsp;When Marvin wasn’t working, he would enjoy spending some time outdoors, going hunting, fishing, or tinkering in his workshop.

Those left to honor Marvin’s memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Joellen Hunt of Lexington; sons, Steve (Carolyn) Hunt of Tempe, Arizona, Mark Hunt of Lexington, and Patrick (Elizabeth) Hunt of Tempe, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Christopher L. Hunt of Chandler, Arizona, Hayden (Kathy) Hunt of Temple, Texas, Abby Hunt of Overton, Natalie Hunt of Tempe, Arizona, David Hunt of Tempe, Arizona, Bridgette Flores of Gothenburg, Rebekah Hunt of Wood River, Tyler (Jackie) Hunt of Lexington and Carly (Josh) Eacker of Kennesaw; and eighteen great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 </figure>On the morning of March 27, 2023, Marvin Merl Hunt passed away at the Lexington Regional Hospital. Upon passing, Marvin was 89 years old. He passed away peacefully from natural causes. Marvin was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.Marvin was born on January 29, 1934, in Arcadia, Nebraska to Sidney and Leota (Summers) Hunt. He graduated from Arcadia High School with the class of 1951. On December 21, 1952, Marvin married the love of his life, Joellen Burns in Reno, Nevada. Five children were blessed to this union: Teresa, Steve, David, Mark and Patrick.Marvin proudly served in the Naval Air Force during the Korean War. He served two tours of Duty on the Yorktown and Princeton Aircraft carriers as a 3rd&nbsp;class petty officer. He was incredibly proud of his time in the Naval Air Force, and it held a special place in his heart to serve his country.Following his discharge, Marvin moved back to Arcadia where he worked on the family farm. In 1959 they moved to Lexington where he started working for the hay mills. In 1968, he became the owner of a local business called Service Supply Company where he gained a faithful clientele due to his hard work, integrity and great service. He would continue working for his company for the next 55 years. &nbsp;When Marvin wasn’t working, he would enjoy spending some time outdoors, going hunting, fishing, or tinkering in his workshop.Those left to honor Marvin’s memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Joellen Hunt of Lexington; sons, Steve (Carolyn) Hunt of Tempe, Arizona, Mark Hunt of Lexington, and Patrick (Elizabeth) Hunt of Tempe, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Christopher L. Marvin M Hunt (1934-2023)

Martin&nbsp;Thomas of Wellfleet, NE, passed away at Great Plains Health on March 29, 2023, at the age of 60.

Martin was born to Eugene and Judith Thomas on April 12, 1962, in Denver. He grew up and attended school in San Jose, CA. He moved to Reno, NV, and had three children: Mark, Matthew and Hannah, and he adopted Paul and Anthony. In 2022, he relocated to Wellfleet to be close to his mother.

Martin worked as a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything; he especially liked to fix old cars with Hannah. He loved to hike, golf and shoot and was the kindest man you could know. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Martin was loved so much by his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene; twin brother, Mark; and infant son, Mark Thomas.

Survivors include Martin's mother, Judith Hovland of Wellfleet; daughter, Hannah Thomas-Gantar (Justin) of Greenwood, IN; sons, Matthew Thomas (April) of Bargersville, IN, Paul Thomas (Katy) of Spicewood, TX, and Anthony Thomas of Reno, NV; grandchildren, Samuel, Jude, Tanner, Henry, Ahyoka, Hania and Aven; brothers, David Gill (Dawn) of San Jose, CA, and Michael Gill (Leslie) of Fernley, NV; sisters, Tracy Byram of Fernley, NV, and Diane Greene (Sid) of Sacramento, CA; and other family.

Kevin was born to Allen and Susan Maline on August 4, 1986, at La Jolla, CA. The family moved to North Platte in 1995. After graduating from North Platte High School, Kevin attended Fab School in Riverside, CA, then worked in California for a short time. He returned to North Platte and worked with his dad at Al's Electric. In his free time he enjoyed motorcycle racing.

Elizabeth “Betty” M. Candea, 94, of North Platte, NE passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at North Platte Care Center.

Betty was born on November 19, 1928 in North Platte the daughter of George and Marie (Mica) Candea.

She was a graduate of North Platte high school and worked for many years as a dietary aide in the cafeteria at Memorial Hospital. She loved her job at the hospital and enjoyed helping people, she retired on December 26, 1998. She was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church in North Platte. Betty was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and she enjoyed bowling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is fondly remembered by her church family and friends, especially Claudette and Gene Nelson of North Platte.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by all her siblings, Margaret Borns, David, Thomas, Dean, Victor, and George Candea.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating.

Franklin Blair “Frank” Snyder, 69
 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Tuesday,
 March 28, 2023, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital, following an 
automobile accident on January 10, 2023, near Bertrand.&nbsp; Frank was a 
kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many 
lives he touched.&nbsp; His family knows he has been reunited with “Bo”, his 
favorite Springer Spaniel; his brother Rodney Snyder; his parents, Frank
 and Ardis (Rodsetter) Snyder; and a nephew, Mark Snyder.&nbsp;

Frank was born on June 5, 1953, 
in Windom, Minnesota.&nbsp; He graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 
1971.&nbsp; Frank received a Communications Degree from Morehead State 
University in 1975, and then attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, 
where he graduated with a Radio Broadcast Degree.&nbsp;

Following his education, Frank 
moved to Nebraska and accepted a position at KRVN Radio in Lexington, 
Nebraska.&nbsp; He had numerous roles at KRVN, including Sports Director, 
News Director, and Announcer, retiring in 2013.&nbsp;

On January 14, 1995, Frank was 
united in marriage to Pam.&nbsp; The couple bought the Blue Moose in 2009.&nbsp; 
Frank enjoyed telling stories and being with his buddies at the 
restaurant “round table," telling more stories, over, and over, and 
over…

Frank loved hunting, fishing, 
horseback riding, Nebraska Football and the Minnesota Vikings.&nbsp; He was a
 cowboy and loved riding horses.&nbsp; Frank was a member of the National 
Pony Express Riders, participating in re-rides; and the Civil Service 
Commission of Lexington, helping with interviewing and hiring at the 
Lexington Police Office, for many years.&nbsp;

The loves of his life were:&nbsp; his 
wife of 28 years, Pam Snyder; his step-children:&nbsp; Lindsey Robison and 
her husband, Joey; and Jarrod Hird and his wife, Bri; and last but not 
least, his grandson, Ryan Blake Robison, all of Bertrand; his kids with 
fur:&nbsp; Boz, Bear, and Moose; father-in-law and mother-in-law: &nbsp;Russell 
and Marilyn Bellew of North Platte, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Mike

Arlene Kay Steffen, age 69, of Crofton, 
Nebraska, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the University of 
Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 
10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. 
An Duy Phan officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in
 Crofton. Visitation will be on Sunday, at church, from 3-5:00 p.m. with
 a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m.&nbsp; Visitation will continue on Monday, at 
church, one hour prior to services.&nbsp; Arrangements are under the 
direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.

Pallbearers will be Abigail Steffen, Preston Steffen, William 
Steffen, Anthony Steffen, Carter Steffen, and Terry Thunker.&nbsp; Honorary

Arlene Kay was born on December 12, 1953, in Sutherland, Nebraska, to 
Robert William and Lula Marie (Knoles) Kennicutt.&nbsp; She grew up in the 
Curtis, Nebraska area and graduated from Medicine Valley High School in 
1972.&nbsp; She went to the Grand Island School of Business and then started 
working for an insurance adjuster in North Platte, NE. 

She married 
Edward Walter Steffen on November 9, 1974 in Curtis, NE.&nbsp; They moved to 
McCook, Nebraska, where they lived for three years before moving to 
Crofton in 1977.&nbsp; Arlene and Ed raised four children Doug, Craig, Steve,
 and Lisa.&nbsp;&nbsp; Throughout the years, Arlene worked at Crofton Farm Supply 
as a bookkeeper, Crofton Schools as head cook, Yankton Medical Clinic in
 records, and Yankton Human Services Center as a transcriptionist.&nbsp; 
After her retirement in 2020, she worked for the City of Crofton as a 
clerk.

She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she served
 as a lector, EMHC and was active in Ladies Guild and Christian 
Mothers.&nbsp; She taught CCD for many years and continued to volunteer her 
time by making rosaries with the students.&nbsp; Arlene enjoyed baking, 
quilting, sewing, gardening and canning. She loved spending time with 
her grandchildren and sharing her many talents with them.

Arlene is survived by her husband Ed of Crofton; her four children 
Doug (Traci) Steffen of Crofton, Craig (Crystal) Steffen of Bloomfield, 
Steve (Stephanie) Steffen of Gretna, and Lisa (Andrew) Case of Omaha; 15
 grandchildren; mother Lula Kennicutt of Paxton, NE; two brothers Melvin
 (Paula) Kennicutt of Arapahoe, NE, Ron Kennicutt of Maywood, NE.

Arlene Kay Steffen (1952-2023)

Truxton King "T.K." Ford, 99, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born May 1, 1923, in California, he was the son of Elizabeth Frances 
(Hinman) and Earl Leighton Ford. T.K. was one of three children. On May 
13, 1945, he married Ruth Mitchell in Coronado, California. Together 
they had four children. She later passed on July 8, 1986. After many 
years, he met Virginia Tutor and they married in Burlington, Iowa, on July 14, 
2001. She later passed on January 5, 2018. &nbsp;

He graduated from North Platte High School in May of 1941, 
but missed the graduation ceremony because he enlisted in the Navy 
before turning 18 and had signed up for the "kiddie cruise." The school 
left a spot open for him on the stage and his mother accepted his 
diploma for him. He was a United States Navy Veteran.

T.K. enlisted in the United States Navy on April 14, 1941, as an 
Apprentice Seaman. On August 4, 1941, he began AMM (Aviation Machinists 
Mate) School in Jacksonville, FL. He was promoted to Seaman Second Class
 on August 25, 1941. He graduated from AMM on November 22, 1941 and on 
November 25, 1941 he was sent to the Naval Receiving Station in Norfolk,
 VA where he was ultimately assigned to the U.S.S. Yorktown, CV-5, an 
aircraft carrier. 

On December 7, 1941, T.K. was in Norfolk, VA, when the
 attack on Pearl Harbor demanded that the U.S.S. Yorktown head to the 
Pacific, first to the Battle of the Coral Sea and then to the Battle of 
Midway. T.K. was an AMM3C (Aviation Machinists Mate 3rd Class) and a 
Plane Handler in the Battle of the Coral Sea as part of the VF-42. 
&nbsp;After the Battle of the Coral Sea, all enlisted men from the VF-42 
became part of Jimmy Thach's VF-3 squadron. T.K. then became an AMM2C 
and Plane Captain for a fighter plane in the Battle of Midway. During 
battle, the Yorktown was severely damaged by bombs and torpedoes and 
eventually had to be abandoned by its crew. T.K. was eventually picked 
up by the destroyer U.S.S. Russell, DD414. Following the Battle of the 
Coral Sea, T.K. was offered an appointment to Annapolis by Lt. Richard 
Crommelin, but opted instead for flight school. Between the Battle of 
Midway and flight school, T.K. briefly served in Ed "Butch" O'Hare's 
squadron, meeting and shaking hands with Butch on one occasion.&nbsp;

T.K. came out of flight school as an AP1C (Aviation Pilot 1st Class).
 He flew as an AP1C (enlisted pilot with wings) until sometime in 1943 
when an ALNAV offered a commission to pilots if they met certain 
standards. T.K., as a result, was commissioned as an Ensign. He flew the
 rest of the war as a utility pilot. After flying for some time as an 
Ensign, and after the war, there was another ALNAV which resulted in 
T.K. being temporarily assigned as a Lt. J.G. Although a career in the 
Navy was the original plan, with his first child on the way and no 
furlough or married housing available, T.K. resigned his commission as a
 temporary Lt. J.G., going back to Chief Aviation Pilot to go out on 
points. He then accepted assignment in the Naval Reserve as Lt. J.G. 
T.K. was proud of his achievement of having served in all enlisted pay 
grades.&nbsp;

Following the war, he attended college and law school at the 
University of North Dakota, thereafter moving to Burlington, IA, first 
to manage National Research Bureau and then to practice law. T.K. served
 several terms as the Des Moines County Attorney. During his 42-year 
general practice of law, he was the defense attorney in a number of high
 profile murder cases. T.K.'s daughter, Merry, practiced law with him 
for the last 22 years of his practice. He retired in 1999.&nbsp;

For recreation, he climbed a number of mountains, including but not 
limited to, Mount Rainer, the Grand Teton, and Long's Peak. He also 
hiked solo 115 miles along the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho,
 and in a different trip, hiked solo 210 miles along the Muir Trail in 
California, which ended with the climbing of Mount Whitney. He also 
liked to go white water rafting and traveled extensively.&nbsp;

(Hinman) and Earl Leighton Ford. T.K. was one of three children. On May 
13, 1945, he married Ruth Mitchell in Coronado, California. Together 
they had four children. She later passed on July 8, 1986. After many 
years, he met Virginia Tutor and they married in Burlington, Iowa, on July 14,

will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. &nbsp;A time of
 food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral
 Service following the Service.A memorial has been established for Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
