North Platte, Neb. - The Prairie Arts Center in North Platte has announced a new variety of classes that community members can take. There are plenty of classes that everyone can enjoy. The PAC also welcomes in 2 new galleries beginning in February. Lastly the PAC will be launching two new programs.&nbsp;

Post news director Canon Rath chatted with Scrappy the president for the Guardians of the Children (GOC) about the upcoming 11th annual "caller" chili/soup, rib/meat cook off and silent auction taken place this Saturday at the D&amp;N Event Center in North Platte.&nbsp;

The event runs from 11:00am - 2:00pm and costs $5 at the door to get in. That $5 paid will let you taste all the chili/meats being served. The event is in honor of Ed "Caller" Clafin. The Lil' Guardians will be on location selling drinks and cinnamon rolls. Attendees will have the chance to vote on the best chili/soup, rib/meat and best decorated booth. 

The GOC is still looking for teams to participate in the event. If you would like to participate, it does cost $45 per team. To get the contact information, check out the flyer attached to the story.

North Platte, Neb. - When most folks here 4-H, they instantly think it's animal showing, which there is plenty of that. However, there are different areas of activities for 4-H'rs to get involved in and one of those areas is the entrepreneurship project.&nbsp;

Emersyn Sheard, a local 4-h'r for Lincoln, Logan and McPherson County spent this past summer doing different activities but one of those activities was her entrepreneurship project which was a robot that can clean your room.&nbsp;

"For my four H entrepreneurship project, I identified a problem that I think most people relate to keeping their room clean. I know we can all struggle with that, and it can be overwhelming to find the time and motivation to tidy up. So, I came up with a solution, a robot that could clean your room for you, " said Emersyon Sheard. " I designed a prototype which was more like a concept or an idea to show what the robot could look like and how it could work. Through this project I learned about the importance of problem solving. It was fun to learn how to gather data with a survey."&nbsp;

Sheard also participated in food and nutrition, sewing, entrepreneurship and art and crafts and plans on to do many of those activities once again this summer.&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - Exciting times are upon us at the North Platte Regional Airport is making numerous changes. Earlier in the fall, the city welcomed state and federal leaders alongside local leaders, community members and more for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new terminal building.&nbsp;

The terminal will bring a new, modern look. Also, the terminal is scheduled to be done in Spring 2026, but if nice weather continues, the project could move along a tad bit quicker. While the terminal has been the highlight at the airport, the committee have brained storm and discussed new projects to be done. North Platte also saw a record-breaking year in 2024 and wants to build off that success.&nbsp;

POST news director Canon Rath had the chance to with Dan Phelps from the North Platte Airport Authority. The duo discussed the new terminal, how expansion of the airport can help economic development in North Platte, how the existing building will be repurposed and so much more. North Platte, Neb. - When most folks here 4-H, they instantly think it's animal showing, which there is plenty of that. There are different areas of activities for 4-H'rs to get involved in and one of those areas is the music contest where the kids can participate in by using just vocals, playing an instrument, or even both.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jayden Tillman is a senior at Brady High School and has been involved in the music contest since he was in 8th or 9th grade. Around that same time is when he started to develop an interest in music. When participating he likes to use his vocal cords and play his guitar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"The music contest. It's a really an overly glorified talent show. It is a phenomenal thing," said Tillman. &nbsp;"You can take it. You can have time to showcase your talents, whether it be poetry or singing or just playing an instrument and stuff, you know, gives you a way to express yourself and kind of show your skills to people that you may not otherwise be able to show them to and stuff. It is a really, like I said, really good deal and stuff to do.&nbsp;

While not participating in the music contest, Tillman likes to enter bake goodies during the fair season and more He is also the recipient of the 4 H council scholarship and plans to go a tech school in Kansas following his graduation from Brady.&nbsp;

There are different areas of activities for 4-H'rs to get involved in and one of those areas is the music contest where the kids can participate in by using just vocals, playing an instrument, or even both.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Jayden Tillman is a senior at Brady High School and has been involved in the music contest since he was in 8th or 9th grade. Around that same time is when he started to develop an interest in music. When participating he likes to use his vocal cords and play his guitar.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><figure>

Santa Claus will also be making an appearance at the event. This event is a way for Grandels to give back to their community. Kearney, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Kearney sports communication majors received news that the group has been nominated in three categories for this year's IBS awards in New York City. &nbsp;

Amongst the students is North Platte native Kade Mohr who has been nominated for the second year and this year is a finalist with seniors Jon Willis and Ethan McCormick for "Best Sports Talk Show". All sporting events and talk show aired on 91.1 KLPR the student run radio station during the 2024 year. This marks another year where UNK students have been nominated for the IBS awards in New York City.&nbsp;

North Platte, Neb. - The Salvation Army is gearing up for the next few weeks as the group heads into their busy time of the month with Christmas quickly approaching. The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to ring at different locations throughout North Platte and if you have time this week, it is supposed to be a very nice week to get out and ring. Last week was the Thanksgiving box distribution for families who signed up and this year the group doubled the number of boxes compared to last year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"We were able to give out almost 300 boxes of food. Each food box had a turkey, and it was like a full bird turkey, they had stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, you know, some cranberries, whatever, whatever you can really think of that would go on. You would see on the Thanksgiving table.  We were able to help out almost 300 families this year," said Camon Landry. "I think last year we were around 160,170ish. So yeah, pretty close to doubling what we were able to do last year."&nbsp;

North Platte, Ne - The Lincoln, Logan, McPherson County Extension Office recently announced the formation of a "First Lego Robotics League". According to Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson, the league programs and codes robots to go through obsicle courses. Jacobson said "theres a team of young people that programs and codes a robot to go through an obstacle course. Every year the state has a competition in Lincoln along with competitions around the state; but there's a different obstacle every year and you just kinda work towards as a team figuring out how to program your robot to successfully go through this obstacle course."

Nick Newland, a local 12 year old recently signed up for the team joined Jacobson in the Eagle Media Studio to talk about the new program, Nick says, "I really like doing Legos and my mom told me about 4-H and that they have a robotics class and I was really excited because I'm really into coding and doing robotics and Legos and she told me that was for Legos too, and I was really excited when she said she could sign up."

Many think 4H is all about arts, crafts and animals, but according to Jacobson, "our main wheel-house is about finding out what our youth are interested in and how we can essentially get them to where we want them to go, and to grow in a positive way and be able to thrive in today's world. You know there's a whole lot of jobs in that realm that haven't even been invented yet and this is a great way for you to get their toes in and be prepared when they step out post high school when they leave and they go to college or whatever they're gonna do post high school. Then they have that experience a little little bit already so they're just that much more prepared to take whatever life throws at them. A lot of people pointed out that technology is incorporated into any job that you were going into and that's really kind of where our focus is,&nbsp; just looking at the big picture and seeing how we can help prepare our youth for right now that will help them in their future".&nbsp;

<p>North Platte, Ne - The Lincoln, Logan, McPherson County Extension Office recently announced the formation of a "First Lego Robotics League". According to Extension Educator Caitlyn Jacobson, the league programs and codes robots to go through obsicle courses. Jacobson said "theres a team of young people that programs and codes a robot to go through an obstacle course. Every year the state has a competition in Lincoln along with competitions around the state; but there's a different obstacle every year and you just kinda work towards as a team figuring out how to program your robot to successfully go through this obstacle course."</p><figure>

North Platte, Neb. - The 11th Guardians of the Children's Toy Drive is off to a fantastic start with the community coming together to donate toys. Over 30 drop off locations throughout North Platte for those who wish to donate a toy. Toys need to be unopened when donating. The GOC will be collecting toys until December 7th. The 2024 North Platte Elks Hoop Shoot is back on December 8th at Adams Middle School. The event is for boys and girls ages 8-13 and students will shoot 25 free throws. Students who win each division will move the ranks to compete for a chance to go to Chicago for the finals. The girls shoot at 1:00pm and boys shoot at 2:00pm. The event is free for those who want to participate.&nbsp;
