<a>The following statement is from the family of Greg Sharpe, Huskers Radio Network’s Nebraska play-by-play voice for football and baseball since 2008: &nbsp;</a>

Today we are saddened to inform you of the passing of Greg on Friday. A wonderful husband, father, brother, friend and of course broadcaster. While his passion and energy on the call of Husker football and baseball brought joy to so many for the past 17 seasons, it comforts us to know that his legacy will live on through these same moments that he narrated and through the relationships that he built.

While the public knew him for his booming voice and infectious personality, those closest to him knew him for his loyalty and dedication to them.

Over the last 12 months Greg has fought a very public battle with pancreatic cancer. Even though it was a grim diagnosis at the time, Greg chose to live and not to fear. He leaned into his faith, family and of course his professional calling of broadcasting Husker athletics. Without the support from the University of Nebraska, Playfly Sports and of course the best fans in college athletics, Husker Nation, he may not have been able to continue to fight and live the way that he did.

The love shown to him during this difficult time truly touched Greg and our family. We are forever grateful to Husker fans everywhere for the letters, gifts and of course prayers.

We are all better for having had Greg in our lives.

Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen provided the following statement on Sharpe’s passing:

“On behalf of everyone in the Nebraska Athletic Department, I would like to share our deepest condolences with the family of Greg Sharpe. This is a tough day for everyone. Not only those who were close to Greg and those who had the opportunity to work with him, but also for Husker fans who have fond memories of Greg’s calls of iconic moments in Nebraska history.

“Greg was an incredible person and was a friend to everyone. Simply put, he defined what it meant to be a Husker, and he will always be a Husker.”

Sharpe, 61, first served as Nebraska football’s play-by-play voice for the final three games of the 2007 season, then took over in a permanent role beginning with the 2008 season. Sharpe handled the football duties for the next 17 seasons, while also leading the Husker baseball broadcast team since the 2008 season. Sharpe was recently honored as the 2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year, the second time he has won the prestigious honor. &nbsp;

Sharpe and his wife, Amy, are the parents of three daughters, Emily, Campbell and Taylor. &nbsp;

Boys Wrestling Districts begin today

College Park, Md.&nbsp;- Nebraska put together its most complete game of the season to knock off No. 17 Maryland, 91-71, at the Xfinity Center on Thursday night.

The Huskers, who notched their second win of the season over a top-25 team, snapped a three-game losing streak by dominating the second, third and fourth quarters after the home-standing Terps built a 14-point first-quarter lead. Nebraska outscored the Terps by 42 points over the next 28 minutes to secure a huge road win.

The win helped the Huskers improve to 17-7 overall and 8-6 in the Big Ten to clinch a spot in the Big Ten Tournament. The Terps slipped to 19-6 overall and 9-5 in the Big Ten. The win marked Nebraska's fourth in the last five games against the Terps and NU's second straight win at the Xfinity Center.

It was Nebraska's first true road win over a top-25 team since the Huskers defeated No. 23 Michigan State, 68-64, on Jan. 10, 2021. The Terps were the highest ranked team the Huskers have defeated in a true road game since knocking off No. 9 Texas A&amp;M in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Alexis Markowski led a balanced and explosive Big Red effort with her ninth double-double of the season, producing 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Markowski led six Huskers in double figures, including 15 points from Alberte Rimdal, who was 5-for-7 from the floor including 2-for-3 from three-point range. Rimdal's last bucket with seven minutes left in the game gave the Huskers their first 20-point lead at 81-61.

Britt Prince scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half to help the Huskers pull away. Prince, who went 6-for-10 from the field while adding a career-high eight assists, knocked down Nebraska's 12th three-pointer of the night to give the Big Red its biggest lead at 91-63 with 3:23 left in the game.&nbsp;

Logan Nissley added 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while contributing five rebounds and five assists. Fellow sophomore Jessica Petrie also pitched in 11 points and six rebounds, while Callin Hake rounded out the six Huskers in double figures, including a pair of threes.

Hake scored eight of her 10 points in the second half to help Nebraska outscore the Terps 46-26 in the second half.

For the game, Nebraska finished 50.7 percent (34-67), including 12-of-21 threes (.571), while connecting on 11-of-16 free throws. The Huskers dominated the boards against one of the nation's best rebounding teams, controlling the glass, 42-25. Nebraska won the first-quarter rebounding battle 13-10, then allowed the Terps just six total rebounds over the second and third quarters combined to take a 36-16 edge on the glass and a 14-point lead to the fourth quarter.

Shyanne Sellers led Maryland with 23 points, but she was the only Terp in double figures. She added three rebounds and four assists. Five other Terps had eight or more points, but only Christina Dalce managed five rebounds for Maryland. The Terrapins went 12-for-19 from the field in the first quarter, but just 12-for-39 the rest of the way as the Huskers dominated the final 30 minutes.

In a high-scoring first half, Maryland jumped out to an early 14-point lead in the first quarter behind the hot shooting of Sellers, who scored 12 straight points to put the Terps up 15-6. The Terps took their biggest lead at 29-15 after back-to-back buckets by Allie Kubek with 25 seconds left in the quarter.

Nissley scored Nebraska's final six points of the opening quarter on a pair of three-pointers to give the Huskers some momentum, despite trailing 29-18.

The Terps maintained a 12-point lead at 34-22 before Rimdal converted a traditional three-point play and Kendall Coley followed with a three-pointer to cut the margin to 34-28 with 6:33 left in the half.

Dalce slowed NU's momentum briefly before Petrie scored six straight pointers, including a three-pointer with 3:33 left to pull the Big Red within 36-34. Rimdal added to the Husker run with a transition three-pointer to give Nebraska its first lead of the half at 37-36 with 3:10 left.&nbsp;

Markowski capped an 11-0 run with a pair of free throws on NU's next possession, before Maryland slowed the streak with an Emily Fischer free throw. But the Huskers got two free throws from Rimdal and a layup from Hake to give Nebraska a six-point lead at 43-37 with 1:21 left. The two teams traded buckets before Maryland scored the final six points of the half to send the teams to the locker room tied at 45.

Rimdal led Nebraska with 10 first-half points on perfect shooting from the field and the line, while Markowski and Nissley each added eight points. Petrie and Kendall Moriarty both pitched in six first-half points, as the Huskers connected on 17-of-38 shots (.447) including 5-of-11 three-pointers (.455). NU also hit 6-of-7 free throws.

Nebraska outworked Maryland on the glass, 22-13, in the half, including 13-3 in the second quarter. The Terps won the first-half turnover battle, 5-4.

Sellers led Maryland with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Kaylene Smikle and Fischer each contributed six first-half points.

The win marked Nebraska's fourth in the last five games against the Terps and NU's second straight win at the Xfinity Center.It was Nebraska's first true road win over a top-25 team since the Huskers defeated No. 23 Michigan State, 68-64, on Jan. 10, 2021. The Terps were the highest ranked team the Huskers have defeated in a true road game since knocking off No. 9 Texas A&amp;M in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.Alexis Markowski led a balanced and explosive Big Red effort with her ninth double-double of the season, producing 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Markowski led six Huskers in double figures, including 15 points from Alberte Rimdal, who was 5-for-7 from the floor including 2-for-3 from three-point range. Rimdal's last bucket with seven minutes left in the game gave the Huskers their first 20-point lead at 81-61.Britt Prince scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half to help the Huskers pull away. Prince, who went 6-for-10 from the field while adding a career-high eight assists, knocked down Nebraska's 12th three-pointer of the night to give the Big Red its biggest lead at 91-63 with 3:23 left in the game.&nbsp;Logan Nissley added 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while contributing five rebounds and five assists. Fellow sophomore Jessica Petrie also pitched in 11 points and six rebounds, while Callin Hake rounded out the six Huskers in double figures, including a pair of threes.Hake scored eight of her 10 points in the second half to help Nebraska outscore the Terps 46-26 in the second half.For the game, Nebraska finished 50.7 percent (34-67), including 12-of-21 threes (.571), while connecting on 11-of-16 free throws. Nebraska won the first-quarter rebounding battle 13-10, then allowed the Terps just six total rebounds over the second and third quarters combined to take a 36-16 edge on the glass and a 14-point lead to the fourth quarter.Shyanne Sellers led Maryland with 23 points, but she was the only Terp in double figures. She added three rebounds and four assists. Five other Terps had eight or more points, but only Christina Dalce managed five rebounds for Maryland. The Terrapins went 12-for-19 from the field in the first quarter, but just 12-for-39 the rest of the way as the Huskers dominated the final 30 minutes.In a high-scoring first half, Maryland jumped out to an early 14-point lead in the first quarter behind the hot shooting of Sellers, who scored 12 straight points to put the Terps up 15-6. The Terps took their biggest lead at 29-15 after back-to-back buckets by Allie Kubek with 25 seconds left in the quarter.Nissley scored Nebraska's final six points of the opening quarter on a pair of three-pointers to give the Huskers some momentum, despite trailing 29-18.The Terps maintained a 12-point lead at 34-22 before Rimdal converted a traditional three-point play and Kendall Coley followed with a three-pointer to cut the margin to 34-28 with 6:33 left in the half.Dalce slowed NU's momentum briefly before Petrie scored six straight pointers, including a three-pointer with 3:33 left to pull the Big Red within 36-34. Rimdal added to the Husker run with a transition three-pointer to give Nebraska its first lead of the half at 37-36 with 3:10 left.&nbsp;Markowski capped an 11-0 run with a pair of free throws on NU's next possession, before Maryland slowed the streak with an Emily Fischer free throw. But the Huskers got two free throws from Rimdal and a layup from Hake to give Nebraska a six-point lead at 43-37 with 1:21 left. The two teams traded buckets before Maryland scored the final six points of the half to send the teams to the locker room tied at 45.Rimdal led Nebraska with 10 first-half points on perfect shooting from the field and the line, while Markowski and Nissley each added eight points. Petrie and Kendall Moriarty both pitched in six first-half points, as the Huskers connected on 17-of-38 shots (.447) including 5-of-11 three-pointers (.455). On battling injuries/sickness tonight“It’s tough, especially at this point in the season, for sure. You never think that the day of the game you might get sick, but that stuff happens. Life happens. But at the end of the day, I told Brice (Williams) and Connor (Essegian), ‘I got y’all backs’. I don’t care if I have to play 40 minutes, which I did today, but I knew guys weren’t 100%. I know I was, so they needed my voice for sure today. They needed me to help them out, and I was definitely going to do that. Like I said before, we had no urgency. We had two guys not at 100% and one guy down, but at the end of the day, that still doesn’t define what we did today. We didn’t come out with any intensity, no toughness, nothing like that. And when we did, it was too late. We can’t keep doing that, for sure, especially at the end of the season.”

“Coach Nate (Loenser) always says, ‘don’t get deflated on tough shots’. But when you’re trying to make a comeback, especially when you’re down two, they made the last two or three shots, tough layups, floaters, stuff like that kind of hurts. When you play good defense for the first 15 to 20 seconds of the shot clock. At the end of the day, like I said, we wouldn’t be in that predicament if we threw the first punch. A team is going to shoot crazy shots, they’re going to make some of them, they’re going to miss some. Tonight, they made some ones like that. But we’re going to look at the film, we have another road trip, and another opportunity to bond with the guys. We have the opportunity to get two road wins, too. We’ll be good, we’re in a good position right now. We fought back, just to get back in the conversation for being in the tournament. I’m very proud of the guys that I’m playing with, this whole team, and I think we did a lot to be in the situation we’re in. We came back from a six-game losing streak and went on a four-game winning streak. We’re going to flush this away. It stings a little bit, but at the same time, we can’t dwell on this. We have a good team to play on Sunday, and we need to get the ‘W’ on that one too.”

On defense and Maryland making shots“That’s a really good team that’s very hot right now, as hot as any team in the league. They are tough shot makers and the one thing we said was that you can’t let it deflate you. The ones that hurt you are the transition ones. Those are the ones that you contest them in the half-court, if they make those all game, you shake their hand and you move on. I thought we had a couple plays where we rushed it in the paint. Went up one foot, fell down, and that’s what got them out in transition. Brice (Williams) had a really good one where he pump faked (Derik) Queen up in the air and got himself to the free-throw line, but I thought we were rushed at the rim. We talked about making smart plays at the rim, I thought that fueled their break a little bit. But again, that’s a really good basketball team. Queen coming off 29 and 15 in his last one, and we certainly missed Berke (Büyüktuncel) out there for size on him. I thought our guys battled, but that size, length, skill-set that he has, that’s hard to battle when you’re down one of your 6’10”, and Andrew’s (Morgan) fourth foul was not a good call. We found a good formula with Andrew where we were getting the ball, we were running short pick and roll actions and getting into the pocket, and Andrew was going to work on the cleared side. That hurt us when he picked up that fourth. It’s part of it though, those things happen, you have to keep battling, you have to keep fighting. I know that Brice (Williams) had an unbelievable look after that timeout, and it hit every part of the rim and didn’t go in. You can't ask for a better look or a better shot. That thing was halfway down and unfortunately just didn’t fall, that would’ve cut it to one. Again, those things happen, it can’t deflate us. It’s been a while since we’ve lost and we have to handle it the right way. We have to get back to work tomorrow. We have a big game coming up on Sunday, it’s going to be a mental day tomorrow with a lot of guys playing a lot of minutes, and two guys that did not participate this morning in our film session, or our walkthrough, with Connor (Essegian) and Brice. Those guys are not feeling very well and I’m proud of Brice going out and battling his ass off. He played 38 minutes, Connor had some good looks, he had a couple that were halfway down, but he was struggling, and it was really a game-time decision. He went out and battled it out, but it’s a tough one. We haven’t lost in a while and we have to respond, and what happened last time we lost can not happen again. We can not afford to go on a streak right now.”&nbsp;

On when he found out Connor Essegian and Brice Williams were going to be good to go

“Brice (Williams) at the shoot-around, he participated in about half of it, then he sat down. The biggest thing was low energy, fatigue and body aches. That’s really what they were experiencing, and I know there’s so much going around right now. I got a call this morning from our athletic trainer, that Brice had reached out, and he had a tough night. He didn’t sleep and had chills pretty much all night long. He came in and got an IV before the game and said he was good to go. Connor (Essegian), you could see it in his face, I thought he was really flushed. It’s hard to go out there and play against a team with those kinds of athletes and those kinds of shotmakers when you’re not 100%, but I’m proud of those guys for giving it an effort. Hopefully it doesn’t go out through the team, we’re doing some preventative things right now to hope it doesn’t spread throughout the group.”

“This had nothing to do with effort, I thought our guys played hard, they battled. We faced probably the hottest team in the league right now. That’s six of seven for that team right now. Their only loss, they had a double-digit lead at Ohio State, so this team’s rolling. We had our chances. We were right there at the end. Nebraska men’s track and field is ranked 11th in the third week of the USTFCCCA rankings after a big weekend at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.

The Husker men have posted four marks inside the top-10 nationally, while adding six all-time marks this season. Highlighting the group are high jumpers Tyus Wilson (7-4 ¼, 2.24m) and Mason Kooi (7-3 ¾, 2.23m) who cleared the No. 2 and No. 3 marks in the NCAA this season, and Maxwell Otterdahl who is fourth in the country with a shot put throw of 64-7 (19.68).Nebraska women’s track and field are 12th in this week’s poll, as the women have four top-10 marks and 15 marks in the all-time Husker list. Jenna Rogers leads the way as she holds the top high jump in the nation, 6-4 1/4 (1.94m).The Husker men are the top-ranked Big Ten team and have three event squads ranked in the top 10 nationally, including high jump at No. 1, weight throw at No. 6 and shot put at No. 7. On the women’s side, Nebraska is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 1 in shot put, No. 2 in high jump, No. 3 in the pentathlon, No. 5 in long jump, No. 6 in weight throw and No. 8 in pole vault.

Nebraska track and field’s Rogers and Wicker earned Big Ten Track and Field Weekly honors, announced by the conference office this season. After her record-setting performance last week, Rogers, the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, claimed a share of the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor, and Wicker was named the Freshman of the Week, the first Husker to complete this feat.A native of Rutherford, N.J., Rogers cleared a personal-best and Husker school record 6-3 1/4 (1.91m) in the high jump and took the early collegiate lead. Freshman Wicker, a 2024 New Balance Indoor National Champion, made his Husker debut last week at the Holiday Open, clearing 17-4 1/4 (5.29m) to claim the event title.

ohansson Named to The Bowerman Preseason Watch List

Johansson was one of 10 track and field athletes nationally named to The Bowerman 2024 women's preseason watch list. The Bowerman, presented by the USTFCCCA, is the highest track and field accolade given annually to the most outstanding college male and female athletes. First awarded in 2009, watch lists have been released since 2010.A four-time All-American, Johansson claimed the 2023 Outdoor NCAA title and Indoor NCAA silver medal in the shot put. The junior from Hok, Sweden swept the Big Ten shot put titles last season, putting up a school record-breaking mark of 64-1 1/4 (19.54m) at the outdoor meet to earn the Big Ten Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honor. Earlier in the season, Johansson topped the indoor school record book, throwing a 63-4 (19.30m) at the Frank Sevigne Invitational. Huskers take on Tyson Invitational in Arkansas

Hamish Murray fired a 54-hole score of 218 (-4) to tie for seventh individually while leading the Nebraska men's golf team to a tie for seventh in a 14-team field at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Feb. 9-11.

Murray, a senior from Sydney, Australia, put up the best second-round score of the tournament with a 67 (-5) on Monday, before closing with an even-par 72 Tuesday on the 7,122-yard layout of the Flamboyan Course at Palmas Del Mar Country Club. Murray's second round included an eagle on the par-5, 538-yard third hole and six birdies to overcome a pair of bogeys and one double-bogey in the round.

Evan McDermott added a strong showing of his own with a tie for 15th at 214 (-2) that included back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2) on Monday and Tuesday.&nbsp;

Freshman Brodie Cunningham got off to a solid start with an opening-round 71 (-1) on Sunday, before managing rounds of 74 and 73 to finish in a tie for 32nd at 218 (+2) in the 87-player field. His final round total also included an eagle on No. 3.

Graduate student Reed Malleck completed Nebraska's top four golfers in the lineup with his tie for 53rd at 223 (+7), including a final-round 71 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Rudy Sautron opened the tournament with a 76 (+4) on Sunday but did not compete in the second round. He came back with a 73 (+1) to close the tournament on Tuesday.

Erich Fortlage captured individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 206 (-10) to lead Arkansas to the team title. Kennesaw State's Claes Borregaard finished one shot back in second place at 207 (-9), while TCU's Joe Pagdin took third at 208 (-8).

The Horned Frogs finished second in the team stands at 845 (-19), two shots back of the Razorbacks at 843 (-21). Michigan took third at 853 (-11), while Kennesaw State finished fourth at 854 (-10). Indiana closed in fifth at 860 (-4), while the hosts from UNC Greensboro claimed sixth at 863 (-1), three shots ahead of Nebraska's tie for seventh with North Texas at 866 (+2).

Nebraska will take nearly a month off from competition before returning to action at the Johnnie-O in St. Simons Island, Ga., March 17-18.

Murray earns Top 10 finish in Puerto Rico

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte Community College stretches their win streak to seven games with a 76-66 win over Lamar Community College on Tuesday night.

Nevaeh Golden led the Knights with 18 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. Jada Thompson added 15 points and four assists, while Zaily Mazarin chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.

"We found a way to win tonight and that’s what matters this late in the season," said head coach Jeff Thurman. "Proud of our defensive effort and stops in the fourth quarter.”

North Platte opened the game with the first five points of the match up. Lamar pulled back within two on a long-range jumper by Ana Zesati with 2:58 remaining. Neveah Golden responded by connecting on a three pointer to trigger a 10-4 run to end the first quarter.

A bucket-for-bucket battle for the entirety of the second quarter helped extend the lead to 34-24 at the halftime break.

Lamar erupted in the opening minutes of the second half with a 15-2 rally to knot the game up at 40-40. Madison Cheleen broke the deadlock with a jumper in transition to ignite an 8-3 run over the next 2:20. The Runnin’ Lopes kept pace and managed to cut the margin to four headed into the final ten minutes.

The lead changed hands eight times in the fourth quarter, until a late 10-2 run secured the win for North Platte.

Knights (17-10, 3-0 Region IX) will host Central Community College for their final Region IX regular season matchup on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

Lady Knights fight off Runnin' Lopes to secure seventh straight win

North Platte, Neb. –&nbsp; A 10-point run in the fourth quarter helped the Knights secure the 90-85 win over Lamar Community College on Tuesday night.

Sedrick Nari had a team-high 25 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the field. Freshman Alex Harper added 24 points, while Justus Michael chipped in 18 points and seven rebounds.

“We really took on the next man up mentality today,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. "I’m proud of our effort.”

The first half featured a back-and-forth battle as a late three pointer from Harper knotted the game up at 40-40 at halftime. Nari and Harper provided the spark in the opening twenty minutes by combining for 21 of North Platte’s 40 points.

The battle raged on in the second half until a shot by Justus Michael ignited a 10-0 run. Lamar continued to fight and narrowed the gap to three on a layup by T-Shawn Bois with 22 seconds remaining. Inside the closing seconds, Harper knocked down two free throw attempts to put the game out of reach.

Knights (16-9) will get a week off before resuming Region IX play against Western Nebraska Community College next Tuesday. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. in Scottsbluff.

Lincoln&nbsp;- Alberte Rimdal scored a season-high 20 points off the bench, but it was not enough to prevent Iowa from running to an 81-66 win over the Nebraska women's basketball team at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Monday night.

Lucy Olsen led Iowa with a season-high 32 points&nbsp;to go with six rebounds and seven assists, as the Hawkeyes earned a season split with the Huskers after the Big Red defeated Iowa 87-84 in overtime at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Jan. 16.

Nebraska slipped to 16-8 overall and 7-6 in the Big Ten with its third consecutive loss, while Iowa improved to 17-7 and 7-6 in the conference with its fifth straight win.

Alexis Markowski contributed 15 points, while Logan Nissley put three Huskers in double figures with 11 points on 3-of-7 three-point shooting.&nbsp;

Taylor McCabe scored all 17 of her points in the second half for Iowa, including five three-pointers, while Sydney Affolter put three Hawkeyes in double figures with 13 points.

As a team, Nebraska hit 45 percent (18-40) of its shots from the field, including 41.2 percent (7-17) three-pointers, while knocking down 79.3 percent (23-29) of its free throws. The Hawkeyes dictated things at the defensive end by holding the Huskers in place, showing they were willing to play a physical style early. Iowa committed 25 fouls compared to just 18 for the Huskers on the night, while NU attempted 29 free throws compared to just 14 for Iowa.

However, it put Iowa in foul trouble early as Hannah Stuelke, Addison O'Grady and Affolter all picked up two first-quarter fouls.

Iowa, which jumped to an early 11-2 lead, allowed just four first-quarter field goals and four free throws to take a 16-13 lead at the end of the period. Olsen led Iowa with 12 points in the period.

Nebraska scored its first six points of the second quarter at the free throw line, before freshman Petra Bozan scored five straight points to tie the game at 24 with 5:52 left in the first half. However, Iowa answered Nebraska's 7-0 run with a 9-0 run to rebuild its biggest lead of the first half at 33-24.

The Huskers finished out the second quarter strong to cut the margin to 38-35 at halftime after Amiah Hargrove's three-pointer with 15 seconds left.

NU cut the margin to 41-39 on a Markowski bucket with 7:33 left in the third, but Iowa began pulling away again, rebuilding the nine-point margin at 52-43 on an Olsen three-pointer with 3:43 left.

Nebraska got a pair of free throws from Rimdal to cut the lead back to 52-46 with 1:49 left, before back-to-back three-pointers by McCabe and Affolter gave Iowa its first double-digit lead at 58-46. Olsen capped an 8-0 Iowa run to end the third with two more points with 20 seconds left to send the Hawkeyes to the fourth quarter with a 60-46 lead.

The Huskers, who erased an 11-point fourth-quarter lead in the final six minutes in Iowa City to send the game to overtime, could not find similar magic on Monday night, as the Hawkeyes closed out the 81-66 win.

Iowa finished 30-of-63 (.476) from the field, including a sizzling 12-for-24 from long range. The Hawkeyes out-rebounded the Huskers, 31-29, and won the turnover battle, 15-10.&nbsp;

The Huskers return to Big Ten road action by traveling to nationally ranked Maryland on Thursday night. Tip-off with the Terrapins is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) with live television coverage by the Big Ten Network. The game can also be heard across the Huskers Radio Network and on Huskers.com.

Lockport, Ill. - After going 11-2 over the weekend, the first-ranked Nebraska bowling team finished in third place, tallying a 14,589 total pinfall with a 208.4 average.

The Cornhuskers matched up with No. 2 Vanderbilt in its first round best-of-seven baker match, with a chance to still move up as high as third place. The last time the two teams met, the then nation-leading Commodores edged the Huskers 1,087-1,076 in a traditional match at the Prairie View A&amp;M Invite. The Big Red started with Haley Swindle, Kayla Starr, Kayla Verstraete, Anna Callan and Jillian Martin. The Huskers topped the Commodores in game one, 208-201, despite Vanderbilt’s late four strike spurt. The Cornhuskers rolled a 182 in game two, topping Vanderbilt’s 167 as the Commodores recorded only one strike. Vanderbilt bounced back in the third, rolling a 209 to top Nebraska’s 186, bringing the match to 2-1 in favor of NU. In game four, the Big Red tallied eight strikes and scored a 255 to take a 3-1 lead. In the fifth, the Huskers bowled a 224 including five strikes in a row, but were topped by the Commodores, 235-224. The Cornhuskers were again defeated in game six, 200-171, as Vanderbilt forced a game seven. In the final game, Nebraska recorded five strikes, with two coming from Callan, as the Huskers topped Vanderbilt, 214-161, and defeated Vanderbilt.

With a chance to go to the third-place match, the Huskers played No. 5 Youngstown State. The Big Red started off hot in game one with three strikes and hit another four later in the match to take down the Penguins, 239-215. In game two, the Cornhuskers put together a five strike run to put them over Youngstown State, 213-189, to go up 2-0. In the third, NU rolled a 200 and were topped by Youngstown State’s 221. The Penguins got hot in the fourth, hitting eight consecutive strikes to score a 267, bringing the match to an even 2-2. In the fifth, the Huskers started with eight strikes, as Martin recorded her eighth consecutive strikes, to score a 278, the team’s highest this tournament, taking down the Penguins once again. In the sixth, the Cornhuskers bowled a 210 to take down Youngstown State, 3-1.

In the match for third, Nebraska faced No. 7 Wichita State. In the first, the Cornhuskers took down the Shockers, 175-172, off of a Martin spare in the 10th. In game two, Wichita State hit six consecutive strikes, taking down the Huskers, 253-195. The Big Red recorded 11 strikes to end game three, topping Wichita State, 278-191, to take a 2-1 lead. In game four, Martin recorded her eighth straight strike, her second time in two matches, as NU topped the Shockers again, 212-166. Wichita State ended game five on a five strike run, leading them over Nebraska, 214-187, bringing the match to a 3-2 advantage for NU. The Huskers struggled in game six, rolling a 157, and were topped by Wichita State, 190-157, forcing a game seven. In game seven, the Cornhuskers started with five strikes, finishing with nine total as the Big Red topped the Shockers, 234-203, to claim third place.

Four Huskers finished in the top 25 for individual performances. Verstraete was seventh overall with a total pinfall of 1,089 and a 217.8 average. Starr was in eighth with a total pinfall of 1,088 and average of 217.6. Callan finished at 10th with a total pinfall of 1,076 and a 215.2 average. Swindle was 23rd with a total pinfall of 1,040 and average of 208.

The Huskers return to action Feb. 14-16, as the Big Red travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for the Mid-Winter Invitational, hosted by No. 4 Arkansas State.

Huskers finish Third at Storm Flyer Classic

The Nebraska rifle team finished fifth at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships on Sunday with an aggregate score of 4,699. The Big Red shot a 2,369 in the air rifle.

No. 2 Alaska-Fairbanks took first place with a score of 4,758. No. 6 Ole Miss (4,746) took second, No. 5 TCU (4,732) placed third, and No. 7 Air Force (4,706) grabbed fourth place. No. 9 NU (fifth, 4,699), No. 12 Ohio State (sixth, 4,694), and No. 16 UTEP (seventh, 4,670) rounded out the seven-team field.&nbsp;

“It was a tough weekend in a tough conference, and we fell short of where we wanted to be as a team,” said Head Coach Richard Clark. “We had a couple of great individual performances from Emma in air riflem making the top 8 final, and Alivia in both guns which was great to see and fun to watch. Over the next two weeks, we need to get back to doing us and focusing on doing the little things right to be ready for qualifiers at OSU.”&nbsp;

Junior Emma Rhode led the team in the air rifle with a mark of 597. Her preliminary score qualified her for finals, and she placed sixth overall. Freshman Alivia Perkins took 14th with a score of 595, followed by Camillla Johannessen in 28th with a mark of 591. Maddy Moyer (41st, 586) and Grace Corbett (49th, 573) rounded out the lineup for the Huskers in the air rifle.&nbsp;
