On December 20, 2025 at 1105 AM, Lincoln County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to mile marker 71.5 on Highway 83 on report of a two vehicle injury accident.
Deputies arriving on scene found a semi tractor- trailer and a pickup with horse trailer involved. The driver of the southbound semi; 53 year old Garth Miller of California received serve injuries and was transported to Great Plains Health for Treatment. The driver of the north bound pickup and horse trailer; 18 year old Afton Robertson of Colorado was ejected during the crash and was deceased at the scene. Accident reconstructionists were on scene and continue their investigation. Preliminary investigation shows the pickup and horse trailer crossed the center line into the path of the semi and made an attempt to make a correction but was unable to.
A horse in the trailer and dog in the pickup also died in the accident. NSP and NDOT assisted with traffic control.
