Edwin James Hansen Sr., 95, of North Platte, passed away February 2, 2022 at Great Plains Health.  He was born May 9, 1926 to Maurinas and Eva Hazel (Wood) Hansen in Brady.
Edwin attended school at West Willard, north of Brady.  He worked on the family farm early in life and worked with his Uncle Ted south of Brady in the summers.  Edwin entered the United States Army in 1944, serving in the Pacific.  After his discharge in 1946, he returned to North Platte.
Edwin married Geanive “Genny” Nelsen on August 15, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in North Platte.  He worked at Cement Products, Feeders Service and Supply, Birdwood Products, then with the State of Nebraska operating heavy machinery and trucks. 
Edwin always had a love of animals, raising pigs and cattle for all of his working career.  He enjoyed the ranching lifestyle and will be remembered as a very hard worker and a loving father and grandfather.  He was a good neighbor and friend, helping others when he could.  Edwin never knew a stranger and loved talking to others.

Edwin is survived by children, Leita (Larry) Hatch, Connie (Rick) Springer, Loreen “Shub” Covington, Sherry Janak, Eddie (Sylvia) Hansen all of North Platte; grandchildren Jebb (Laura) Hatch, Rocky (Jessica) Hatch, Lindsey (Ryan) Bachman, Emily (Anthony) McCreery, Allison (Winston) Ryan, Benj Covington, Molly Janak, Jake Janak, Brandon Hansen, Brady (Maria) Hansen, Kaitlyn Hansen, Timmy Hansen; great grandchildren, Braxton, Parker, Berkley, Harper, Maisie, Hoyt, Ellie, Gavin, Kaden, Konner, Addi, Devon, Eva, Taylin, Roady, Hattie, Cortney, Theodora; siblings, Phyllis Burger of Brighton, CO, Lois Tillford of North Platte, Jerry (Sammy) Hansen of North Platte, Denny Hansen of North Platte; numerous other family members and friends.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Maurinas and Eva Hazel; wife, Genny, infant sister, Della Rose; brother, Ray Hansen; nephew, Darrin Hansen; brother-in-law, Chuck Tillford; mother and father in-law, Anton and Annetta Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested the 20th Century Veteran’s Memorial.  Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
Services will be held 12:00 P.M., Monday, February 7, 2022 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Patrick Sipes officiating.  Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.  Visitation will be held noon-6:00 P.M., Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.  The service will be livestreamed via the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend.
