
Tomasita “Tommie” Reyes, age 81, of Hershey, NE, passed away on February 19, 2021 at her home.
She was born September 22, 1939 in Lyons, KS to Modesto and Angela Perez. As a child her family lived in various locations in Kansas, but she grew up in Hershey, NE where her parents settled with the Union Pacific Railroad.
Tommie married Don Reyes in 1961 in Ogallala, NE. The couple moved to Hershey and she worked at the Hershey Truck Stop for many years.
She will always be remembered for her amazing cooking and putting on the Hershey Aztec Basketball Tournament for many years. She never knew a stranger, made friends wherever she went and everyone will always remember her wonderful hugs. Tommie was avid Nebraska Cornhusker Fan.
Survivors include her husband Don of Hershey, NE; children, Debbie (Dennis) Lindsay of Topeka, KS, Donna Fuentes (Jack Meyerhoeffer) of North Platte, NE, Derek Reyes of Memphis, TN, Delores (Richard) Chadwick of Sutherland, NE, Victor Reyes of Lincoln, NE; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cruz Vargas of Wichita, KS, Jay Vargas of Omaha, NE, Ray (Shortie) Vargas of Topeka, KS, Jennie Cuellar of Rosco, TX, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Manuel Vargas, Rueben Perez, Mary Perez, Richard Perez, Benita DelToro, David Perez, Marina Navarette, Esther Thompson and Rose Perez.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Jessi for all of the love, compassion and care you gave to Tommie.
Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte, NE with Reverend Vidya Sagar as celebrant. Burial will be at a later date at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Christian Wake Service will be held 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held noon to 5:00 P.M., Tuesday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte, who is in charge of arrangements.
Services will be livestreamed on the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those that are unable to attend. Current CDC Covid 19 guidelines will be followed.
