North Platte, Neb. — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the North Platte Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested one person after a pursuit in Lincoln County on Thursday.

At approximately 12:35 p.m., a trooper attempted a traffic stop on a Ford Focus after the driver ran a stop sign and cut off a semi right in front of the trooper. The trooper attempted the traffic stop on Halligan Drive, near the Interstate 80 interchange at mile marker 179, at North Platte. The driver of the Ford refused to yield and accelerated to over 80 miles per hour on Halligan Drive, causing a pursuit to ensue.

The vehicle drove recklessly along Halligan Drive, driving westbound in the eastbound lane and using the grass to pass other vehicles. It then drove through parking lots, ran a red light, and continued at a high rate of speed northbound onto Jeffers Street into North Platte. The trooper discontinued the pursuit out of concern for public safety.

Additional troopers, officers, and deputies came to the area to look for the suspect vehicle. A North Platte Police Officer located the vehicle and began pursuing the vehicle as it drove through North Platte for several minutes. The driver eventually left North Platte on Highway 30 and performed multiple U-turns trying to evade pursuing units. The driver swerved toward multiple patrol vehicles during the pursuit.

The driver then turned eastbound back toward North Platte on Scouts Rest Ranch Road and then southbound on Buffalo Bill Avenue. Troopers took over the pursuit again and officers successfully deployed stop sticks to bring the vehicle to a stop near the intersection of Buffalo Bill Avenue and Highway 30. After coming to a stop, the driver refused to follow commands to exit the vehicle. He was then removed from the vehicle and placed into custody.

The driver, Cameron Brogan, 31, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was arrested for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, assault on an officer using a motor vehicle, obstructing a peace officer, and numerous traffic violations. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail. The North Platte Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted in this arrest.
