Esther Irene Hampton, age, 83 formerly of McCook, NE, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Home of the Flint Hills Assisted Living in St. George, KS surrounded by family. After the passing of her husband, Esther moved to Kansas to be closer to family. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, positive attitude embracing life to the fullest, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
Esther was born on February 25, 1941 at the family home southwest of McCook to Walter and Arlene (Dudek) Schuetz. She graduated from McCook High School in 1958.
She married Bruce Hampton, the love of her life, on June 1, 1958 in McCook, NE. Esther was actively involved as a Sunday School Teacher, 4-H Leader and Girl Scout Leader. Esther worked at the A&W Drive-In serving patrons with hometown goodness. She worked at the Chief Motel for many years. Esther and Bruce started a janitorial business in 1981 while continuing to farm. Esther provided courier service for the McCook National Bank. Esther and Bruce did the janitorial service at night for the bank. She enjoyed and dearly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She liked working in her garden, being outdoors and enjoying nature. Throughout the years her hobbies included hunting, fishing, ceramics, crafts, cooking, baking, and sharing delicious recipes with family and friends. Esther was a member of the Memorial Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Arlene Schuetz; her husband, Bruce A. Hampton of 62 years; son-in-law, Danny Pinkerton; two brothers-in-law, Glenn Rhoades and Morris Littlefield, Sr.
Survivors are two daughters, Peggy Pinkerton, Irvine, CA and Pam (Heinz) Wallace, Junction City, KS; grandchildren: Chris Wallace, Junction City, KS and Sara (Andy) Larson of Randolph, KS; great-granddaughter, Clara Larson; sisters, Valeria Rhoades, Papillion, NE and Veda Mae Littlefield, Lexington, TN. Esther is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard (Hilda) Hampton of McCook; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Esther Hampton passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Home of the Flint Hills assisted living facility in St. George, Kansas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2024 from 2 PM - 7 PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Esther's family will be present to greet friends from 5 PM - 7 PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services.
