Bernard Allen Gardner, age 89, of North Platte, died October 14, 2022 at his home.  He was born on April 18, 1933 in Quick, NE to Clyde James and Violet Vivene (Murphy) Gardner.

Bernard attended county School District 101, his freshman year at Stockville and graduated from Curtis School of Agriculture, Curtis, Nebraska.  After graduation he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist.  He entered into the U.S. Army serving at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  After his discharge he returned to North Platte where he continued working for the railroad, retiring after 41 years.  Bernard took excellent care of his mother, traveling through every state but Hawaii with her.  He was a RSVP volunteer, delivering Meals on Wheels for many years.   

Survivors include 2 sisters, Greta (Willis) Roethemeyer of North Platte, and Peggy Miller of Kearney, MO; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Gardner; and 2 sisters, Rosalie Henggeler and Vyvene Young.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday October 19, 2022 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska, with Pastor Geoff Safford officiating.  Book signing will be today, 12 to 7, with family present from 5 -7, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.  The service will be live streamed via the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend.
