Dwight Alan Hatch, age 80, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2024 at his home, surrounded by family.

Dwight was born on May 16, 1943 in Stratton, Nebraska to Kelham and Mildred Hatch. He will be remembered as a skilled educator, compassionate counselor, and devoted foster parent, who touched countless lives with his compassionate ear and wise counsel. He left an indelible mark on his family and generations of learners.

Dwight cherished spending time with family and friends, and his presence brought joy to all who knew him. He enjoyed family gatherings, expressing his creative outlet in woodworking, camping and fishing, and a love of classic cars and motorcycles. Dwight was always known for his calm demeanor and sage advice. He was the consummate straight man in his 62-year partnership with his wife, Bea. He was the Dean Martin to her Jerry Lewis, the George to her Gracie.

Born with a natural gift for teaching and a heart overflowing with empathy, he brought passion and creativity into the classroom, instilling not only knowledge but a deep sense of curiosity in his students. Beyond the confines of the classroom, Dwight extended his caring nature to serve as a counselor and foster parent, forever changing the trajectory of many lives for the better. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Royal Family Kids Camp at www.forthechildren.org or Headquarters 3000 W. MacArthur BLVD, Santa Ana, CA 92704, this was a cause that was close to Dwight’s heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Beatrice and three children: Grant, Greg and Julee; seven grandchildren: Dustin, Benjamin, Taylor, Garrett, Gabriel, Nathaniel and Blaise; two great grandchildren, DJ and Harper; and siblings Robby and Sherry.

A celebration of Dwight’s life will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Ogallala, and will be officiated by Rev. Curt Magelky; where friends and family can come together to honor and remember him.
