Arthur Charles Oswald, of North Platte, Nebraska, died at 5:05 pm on July 31, 2023 at Great Plains Health.

He was born February 21,1936, at Carroll, IA to Peter and Teresa Oswald.  He grew up in Carroll County and graduated high school from St. Bernard's Catholic School in Breda, IA.  He attended two years in the Catholic seminary at Loras College in Dubuque, IA.

He entered the Army Reserves on May 14, 1958 serving during Peacetime and was honorably discharged.  

Arthur met Virginia Ann Kunze while they both worked at Mutual of Omaha.  They were united in marriage on August 25, 1962, at St. Cecelia's Cathedral Chapel after which the couple lived in Omaha and had three children.  In Omaha, Beatrice and Hastings Arthur was an insurance salesman.  In 1972, he, along with a partner, started Tri City Wholesale, in Grand Island, NE, a grocery supplier to restaurants and businesses.  In 1987, he began working for CashWa Distributing in North Platte and was transferred to Lincoln, NE, where he worked until he retired in 2008.  Arthur and Virginia moved back to North Platte in 2009.

Arthur was a member of fast pitch softball and basketball teams for Jim's Bar in Omaha.  He was a member of the Jaycee's where he won the state Speak Up award in 1971.  He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in the choir at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  He was an active member of Sertoma where he held the office of President during his involvement.

Arthur was an excellent salesman building strong relationships with his customers.  He loved boating, sailing and fishing.  He taught his children respect for authority, how to work hard and stand up for the little guy.  He was very generous.  He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.    

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Oswald; sons, John Oswald (Luisa) and Jerome Oswald; and daughter, Anne (John) O'Connor; grandchildren, Nick Oswald, Josh (Courtney) Oswald, Kylie (Tyler) Harper, Darren (Arial) O’Connor, Lucas O'Connor, Leah O'Connor, Pamala Oswald, Trinity Oswald, Renato Oswald, Jerry Oswald Jr., Angie Oswald; and great grandchildren, Rylan, Owen, Mason, Camden, Lane, Brooks, Logan, and Jackie Joy; Brother, Leon (Florence) Oswald; sisters, Glady Nieland and Marge (Bob) Tigges.

Those that preceded in death are his parents; Siblings: Rita Reicks, Paul Oswald, Maizie Soyer, Charles Oswald, Dorothy Vogel, Lola Heim, Bill Oswald, Louis Oswald; and his aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be at Carpenter Memorial Chapel at 2:00 pm on Aug. 7,2023, with the Reverend Randall Langhorst officiating.  Burial will follow at the North Platte Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2-4 pm, August 6, 2023, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family to be determined for later designation. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
