North Platte, Ne. - On Saturday,&nbsp;January 3, 2026, at 2:20 P.M. the North Platte Police Department received a report of a vehicle attempting to enter Interstate 80 in the wrong direction. Fortunately, a quick-thinking good Samaritan was able to safely stop the vehicle before it entered the interstate and immediately contacted our office for assistance.

Officers responded to the scene and conducted a roadside investigation. As a result, Everett Scovell II (30) from Lakewood, Colorado, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol.

“We are extremely grateful to the good Samaritan whose actions likely prevented a very dangerous situation for motorists traveling on Interstate 80," said a spokesperson for North Platte Police Department. "Their awareness and willingness to act helped keep our roadways safe.”
