Chase County Sheriff's Office Reports Fuel Theft in Wauneta; Investigation is On-Going

Wauneta, Neb. - The Chase County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following information in the interest of public awareness.

On December 14, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a fuel theft occurred in Chase County. An investigation was initiated on December 15, 2025, when deputies responded to Crossroads in Wauneta, Nebraska, regarding the theft of approximately 500 gallons of diesel fuel.

During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain video footage of the individual and vehicle involved in the incident.

At this time, the suspect remains at large.

The suspect is believed to be a male, wearing a gray sweatshirt, white sweatpants tucked into boots, and a trapper-style hat.

Pending charges include Nebraska Statute 28-511(B), Theft by Unlawful Taking, with a value between $1,500 and $5,000.

The Chase County Sheriff’s Office advises the public and local businesses to remain vigilant, as incidents of this nature are likely to occur again. Investigators note that offenders often target an area multiple times before moving on.
