LINCOLN, Neb - Phalen Sanford, a former multi-sport athlete at Dundy County-Stratton High School in Benkelman will get his first career start for Nebraska Friday night on the road at Illinois. Sanford has 10 tackles this season including 1 forced fumble against Louisiana Tech. Sanford is 1 of only 4 Nebraskans to start on defense this week.

Phalen Sanford, the 2021 Nebraska Special Teams Player of the Year, is a 6th year Senior for Nebraska, and would be eligible for a 7th season but intends to move on after the season. He earned his bachelor's degree in child, youth and family studies in December of 2022. In high school at Dundy County-Stratton he was a first team D1 Football player as well as a 6 time state champion in track.
