Barbara J. Harrop, 88, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023 at The Maples at Centennial Park Nursing Home.
Barbara was born on December 12, 1934 in North Platte, NE the daughter of John A. and Hazel A. (Johnasen) Hupfer.
Barb graduated from North Platte high school and lived for most of her life in North Platte except for 12 years in Colorado. She was married briefly and had two daughters, Caroline and Elaine. She met her 2nd husband Russell W. Harrop, and they were married on August 1, 1968 in Blair, NE. Russell passed away on March 25, 1993. Barb worked for a short time as a waitress in various local restaurants and in local school cafeterias. She was quite a character who spoke her mind and was known for her fiery red hair in her younger years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in North Platte, North Platte Moose Lodge Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary. Her greatest love was animals, especially her beloved dogs and cats.
Those left to cherish Barb’s memory are daughters, Caroline Kiger and Elaine Leighton; 3 grandchildren; brothers, Tom Hupfer (Bobbie Sue) of Arkansas, and Richard Hupfer (Julie) of North Platte; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hazel Hupfer; husband, Russell; infant sister, Caroline Hupfer; and brother, John Hupfer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the North Platte City Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
