The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors will consider proposals for two new academic certificates, a student needs assessment and facility improvements at North Platte Community College during its regular meeting Wednesday, October 21.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at McCook Community College’s East Campus, located at 905 E. 7th Street in McCook.

Among the items on the agenda are proposals to create a Cybersecurity Certificate and a Digital Marketing Certificate. Both proposals would be forwarded to the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education for consideration.

Board members will also consider proposals for consulting and research services to conduct a student access, retention and success needs assessment, along with project management services to oversee and coordinate the assessment.

The board is scheduled to consider bids for mechanical upgrades to the Osgood building at North Platte Community College and renovations to its wrestling practice facility.

Another proposed purchase would provide the college with an advanced pediatric nursing simulator and bedside virtual monitor for nursing education and training.

Financial matters will also be on the agenda. The board will consider $3,060,836.26 in bills for September, along with a preliminary September financial report.

The consent agenda includes minutes from the board’s September 23 work session, public hearings and regular meeting. It also includes retirement items for Dr. Doug Clouatre, a political science instructor at McCook Community College, and Rex Kemp, an HVAC instructor at North Platte Community College.

The meeting will begin with recognitions of McCook Community College international students and resident assistants and resident life assistants. The agenda also includes an annual report and a report from the college president and cabinet.

A closed session for personnel matters is scheduled before adjournment.

The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to address the board during the open forum are asked to sign in at the public information table. Under the board’s established procedures, the board generally will not respond to or take action on matters raised during the open forum unless they are already included on the agenda.
