NWS releases damage survey report following Tuesday's Custer County storm

Broken Bow, Neb. - The National Weather Service (NWS) have completed their damage survey for Custer County after a strong storm that produced an EF-1 tornado that briefly hit the area on Tuesday. 

According to the NWS, an isolated thunderstorm hit north central Nebraska in the late afternoon and swept across the region. Broken Bow was hit with a downburst that impacted a commercial building, where the roof was torn off and thrown to the south impacting power lines and neighboring buildings. Many trees were damaged in the community. Wind speeds reached anywhere from 65 mph to 95 mph. Hail damage occurred and was noted in the report. 

An EF-1 Tornado was briefly seen on the far western side of Broken Bow but only contacted land for about two seconds, according to the NWS survey. During the brief time, an 800-pound trailer was thrown in an adjacent vehicle. The tornado was witnessed by a storm spotter and caught on surveillance camera. 

NWS reports there were no injuries or fatalities from this storm. Wind speeds reached anywhere from 86mph to 110 mph.
