Larry Lee Daugherty (1936-2021)

Larry Lee Daugherty, age 84, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away February 18, 2021, at his home. He was born March 1, 1936, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Morris LaVerne and Ethel Bea (Bowker) Daugherty.

Larry and his sister, Charmaine were raised by their great aunt and uncle, Ethel and Stanley McCormack.

He grew up in Kearney, Nebraska and graduated from Kearney High with the class of 1954, then attended Nebraska Trade School in Milford, Nebraska for basic electricity. He then entered the United States Air Force in 1957 and served at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. He received an honorable discharge in 1961. After that, he settled back in Kearney and worked at Ted’s Motor Shop in Lexington, Nebraska.

Larry married Joanne Eslinger in 1976. They couple lived in North Platte, Nebraska where Larry hired out for the Union Pacific Railroad as an electrician and retired after 28 years.

He had a passion for the guitar and was in a hillbilly/country western band. Larry loved his family, friends and animals, and  enjoyed eating and socializing at the Senior Center in North Platte. He also raised pigeons and rabbits.

Survivors include his sister, Charmaine Westphal of Humboldt, Iowa; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris LaVerne and Ethel Bea Daugherty; great aunt and uncle, Ethel and Stanley McCormack; step-brother, David Ray; step-mother, Verna Daugherty.

Memorials are suggested to North Platte Senior Center.

Burial will be at a later date at the Kearney City Cemetery, Kearney, NE.
