NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Residents in parts of western and central Nebraska who saw tornadoes and strong storms last week could be in for another round.
The National Weather Service said the risk of severe weather was enhanced for the area Monday night as a cold front was expected to slam into hot air over the region. A swath of the state from the southwestern corner up to north-central Nebraska was likely to see winds of up to 70 mph, large hail and frequent lightning from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday, the weather service said.
Cities in the storms' path include North Platte, Kearney, Imperial, Ogallala and Thedford. Some of those areas, including around Thedford, Grant and Seneca, saw a rash of weak tornadoes last week, although little damage was reported.
Other areas of the state, including much of the Nebraska Panhandle and the eastern third of the state, were under a slight or marginal risk of severe weather Monday night, the service said.
