The North Platte Police Department is stepping up enforcement ahead of the Labor Day holiday as part of a nationwide campaign aimed at reducing drunk driving.
From August 19 through September 7, the department will work with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to deter impaired driving and keep dangerous drivers off the road.
Nationwide, 505 people were killed in traffic crashes during the 2024 Labor Day holiday, with 34 percent of those crashes involving a drunk driver.
During last year's Labor Day enforcement campaign, North Platte Police arrested eight people for driving under the influence.
Police are reminding drivers not to become another DUI statistic—or cause a crash that could change lives forever.
If you plan to drink over the holiday, designate a sober driver or use a taxi or rideshare service.
