David Lee Mentzer, age 62, of North Platte, passed away January 25, 2024.  He was born March 19, 1961, to Delbert and Patricia (Cain) Mentzer in Beloit, Kansas.

David grew up in North Platte and attended school at North Platte Public Schools.  He received his GED in 1979 and then a diploma in Automotive Engineering from Southwest Community College. David married Kaycee Anderson on January 13, 1982, in North Platte, and they had two children: Sara and Chad.

David drove a truck for most of his career and loved it when he got to take his kids on cross-country trips with him.  In 1998, David moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he met Christina Murphy. They were married on August 13, 2010, in Rapid City, South Dakota.  The couple had two children, Alanis and Michael, and raised them in Cheyenne.

In David’s later years, he enjoyed riding Harley’s, building motorcycles, and travelling the country, attending swap meets and auctions.  He loved classic rock and metal music, breakfast food, and most of all, spending time with friends and family, especially his grandson Noah.  David was the kind of guy that would go hungry because he gave away his last bit of money to someone else.

Survivors include children, Sara (Arlee) Gentry of Brady, Chad (Rachel) Mentzer of North Platte, Alanis Murphy and Michael Mentzer of Cheyenne, WY; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; brother, Steve (Kathy) Mentzer of North Platte; sister, Cheryl Meyer of Lincoln; great aunts, Donna Kittle and Lori Reutzel of North Platte; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
