On Septmeber 5, 2025 at approximately 8:23 a.m. Dawson County 911 Center received a call that a motor vehicle had been struck by a train at the intersection of Road 427 and Highway 30. Deputies responded and located&nbsp; a white Buick Enclave in the south ditch north of the railroad tracks with serious damage.&nbsp;

Located in the vehicle was driver, 73-year-old Scott Maline of Kearney and passenger 71 year 71-year-old Kathy Maline of Kearney, both deceased. All airbags were deployed, and restraints were in use.&nbsp;

It was determined the vehicle was northbound on Road 427, entered the uncontrolled railroad crossing, and was struck&nbsp; by an empty westbound train.&nbsp;

The Dawson County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Nebraska State Patrol, Lexington Fire and Rescue, the Priority Medical, Union Pacific Railroad, and Rand and Brian's Towing.&nbsp;
