The North Platte City Council will meet Tuesday, March 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The meeting will begin with an invocation by John Stone of North Platte Berean Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call. The public can also watch the meeting live on the City of North Platte’s YouTube channel at www.northplattene.gov/watch.
Council members will begin with a consent agenda that includes several routine items typically approved with one motion unless a council member requests separate discussion. Those items include approval of the March 3 meeting minutes and forwarding liquor license applications to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. One application is from Caribbean Cravings LLC for a Class AB liquor license allowing beer sales on and off premises at 1320 South Cottonwood Street Suite 2. Another request involves Cartwright’s BBQ LLC seeking approval to expand the licensed area for its location at 502 Easy Street. The consent agenda also includes authorizing the mayor to execute health and accident contracts for the city’s self-insured employee plan beginning April 1.
Among the items on the regular agenda is a proposal to rename the city park located at “A” Street and Dewey Street. The plan would change the park’s name from Pioneer Park to Governors’ Park. If approved, the council will also consider allocating $3,566 from the City Contingency Fund to pay for a new sign reflecting the proposed name change.
The council will also consider the third reading of Ordinance No. 4230, which would annex approximately two acres identified as Lot 13 Cody Land & Cattle and part of Tract E in Lincoln County into the corporate limits of the City of North Platte. Another item calls for accepting bids and awarding a contract for Paving Districts 840 and 841. The proposed contract would award $2,799,340.30 to Level, LLC of North Platte for the paving work.
Council members will also consider the first reading of Ordinance No. 4216, which would amend a previous ordinance related to Paving District No. 842. Another resolution on the agenda would approve a claim and authorize issuing a warrant to Midlands Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $116,754.10 under the terms of warrant financing established in a prior ordinance.
Three public hearings are scheduled during the meeting. The council will consider a recommendation from the North Platte Planning Commission to adopt an ordinance vacating a portion of an alley located between 621 and 701 East 12th Street. Another hearing will focus on a proposed agreement for the sale of real estate at 908 East 14th Street to Matthew and Jamie James. A third public hearing will address a recommendation from the North Platte Historic Preservation Commission and Planning Commission to amend Section 33.07 of the city code governing the Historic Preservation Commission.
