Press Release

A giant sized gorilla drinking sarsaparilla is making its appearance in downtown North Platte.  This is the second large scale mural in the canteen district thanks to donations in a Public Art Fund held at Mid Nebraska Community foundation.   This mural was designed by Holly Carlini of the Prairie Arts Center on the back of the Apeship Brewing building owned by Joel and Liz Bennett.  Tara Lienneman of the Prairie Arts Center is also assisting on the 30’ tall project.   Holly Carlini says, "we can work seamlessly together in our styles to create a whimsical message welcoming visitors to the city of North Platte”.   The first mural was created by Lauren Olson of Oshkosh.  The Canteen themed mural is located adjacent to the gorilla mural on the Hide Park Apparel Building.  Carlini hopes to add more murals to the area depicting the vibrant history of the area with artists across the state.  If you’d like to donate to the fund, contact Mid Nebraska Community Foundation.
