LaVerne Merle Maret, 81, passed away May 27, 2024 at the Elwood Care Center. He was born May 8, 1943, in Imperial, Nebraska to Merle and Zelda (Hinton) Maret. LaVerne graduated from Stockville High School in 1962. He met his wife, Georgia Maret on the Hinton farm when they were just teenagers. The couple eloped to Oberlin, Kansas in 1963 and were later married at the Christian church in Bartley, Nebraska.
LaVerne and Georgia moved to the farm at Stockville where they lived 12 years and raised three sons and two daughters before moving to town and running the Hideaway for many years. They lived in McCook for a number of years before retiring in Holdrege. LaVerne was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and trips to the mountains with his family. He was known for his kind and generous nature.
LaVerne is survived by his children, Tracy Maret of Monroe, WA, Stacy Maret of Farnam, NE, Rodney (Frances) Maret of McCook, Kristy Maret of Bertrand, and Nikki Maret of Wilsonville, NE; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, Margene (Randy) Hayes of Imperial, sister, Marlene Mustion of North Platte; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Zelda; wife, Georgia Maret; grandson, Bryce Maret; and great-grandson, Camron Maret.
Graveside services will be held at the Arbor Cemetery in Stockville on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:00am with Randy Hayes officiating. Visitation will be held in Cambridge at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary on Friday May 31, 2024 from 2pm - 5:00 pm. Friends may leave online condolences at lockenour.com. Memorials may be left in his name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.
