Rachel Pauline Hidy was born to Raymond and Florence (Nealeigh) Frakes on September 3, 1937, at her grandparents’ home in Oak Canyon. She began kindergarten in Portland, Oregon where her father was a welder in a shipyard during World War Two. The family returned to Nebraska where Rachel attended school in Hitchcock County and graduated with the Trenton High School Class of 1955. She continued her education by taking classes at McCook Community College in McCook, Nebraska.
Rachel was united in marriage to Wayne Hidy on May 16, 1956, at the Church of God in Trenton. To this union three children would be born: Paula, Cynthia, and Troy. She taught in rural schools for two years. Wayne’s work would allow the couple to see much of the country. They called many towns home and lived in California, Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska. Their final move was back to McCook, Nebraska where they laid down roots and resided for 27 years.
Above everything else, Rachel was a woman of faith. She belonged and was active in churches in every community that the family called home. She spent countless hours studying her bible and enjoyed time spent in the scriptures with others; this led her to be a part of many bible studies over the years. In addition to her faith, Rachel also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening, planning holiday dinners that would bring her family together, and caring for family.
Rachel was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on May 9, 2024, at her home in McCook. She was 86 years of age.
