Devona J. Gilliland Sellers, 86, former resident of Curtis, NE passed away peacefully on July 15, 2022 at the Wilber Care Center in Wilber, NE.
Devona Joyce was born March 23, 1936 near Maywood, NE to Harry Hazel and Hetty Blanch Doyle Gilliland.  She grew up on the family homestead on Brushy Creek near Maywood, NE.  She attended UNSTA, University of Nebraska School of Agriculture, class of 1954, at Curtis, NE, where she was cheerleader and rodeo queen at UNSTA.  She met her husband Stanley W. Sellers while attending school there, and they were married on May 28, 1954 at Castle Air Force Base, Atwater, California.  To this union was born a daughter Renee.  While living in California she worked at JC Penney and was in training to be a clothing buyer for Penney’s.  Soon after they returned to Nebraska and farmed in Hayes County, where Mom volunteered as a Girl Scout and 4H leader.  She loved to cook and try new recipes.  Her grandkids loved her mashed potatoes and never left hungry.  

Those left to cherish Devona’s memory are daughter, Renee (Mark) Lehmkuhl, of Crete; granddaughters, Lisa (Jesse) Dawes, of Dorchester, Laura Morey, of Wilber, Rachel Lehmkuhl, of Alliance; grandsons, David Lehmkuhl, of Anaheim, CA , Daniel Lehmkuhl, of Nashville, TN; great-grandsons, Troy, Shane, Tucker, and Kingston; and several nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Blanch; husband, Stanley Wayne Sellers; granddaughter, Rebecca Lehmkuhl; sister, Donna (Dale) Hazen;  in-laws, Lois (Loren) Hall, Vernon (Shirley) Sellers, Harrison (Marion) Sellers, Erceil (Vera) Sellers, Lawrence (Esther) Sellers, and Donna (Orval) Coykendall.

Private burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Veterans Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.  Memorials are suggested to Maranatha Bible Camp, Maxwell, Ne.
