The North Platte Police Department is reminding drivers to slow down as officers prepare for increased traffic enforcement during CruiseFest weekend.
From July 10 through July 12, additional officers will be patrolling North Platte streets with a focus on moving violations, including speeding, traffic signal violations and other unsafe driving behaviors. The enforcement effort is funded through the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
According to the department, speeding remains a leading factor in serious crashes. Nationwide, 11,288 people were killed in speeding-related crashes in 2024.
Police say speeding can increase the risk of losing control of a vehicle, reduce the effectiveness of occupant protection equipment, increase stopping distances and make crashes more severe.
The increased enforcement will coincide with CruiseFest activities, when higher traffic volumes are expected throughout the community.
The North Platte Police Department encourages motorists to obey posted speed limits, follow traffic laws and help keep roadways safe for everyone during the busy weekend.
