The North Platte Community College Theater Department will host open auditions for its spring play next month.
The play, “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” is adapted from the science fiction horror film of the same name from the 1950s that was produced, written and directed by Ed Wood.
The plot focuses on aliens seeking to stop humanity from creating a doomsday weapon that could destroy the universe. The extraterrestrials come up with “Plan 9,” a scheme to resurrect Earth’s dead. The aliens hope that by causing chaos, humans will listen to them, and if not, there will be no choice but to destroy mankind with zombie armies.
“’Plan 9 from Outer Space,’ is the epitome of ‘so-bad-it’s-good’ cinema,” said NPCC Theater Instructor Ritch Galvan, who will direct the play. “It is an unintentionally hilarious sci-fi ‘thriller’ from anti-genius Ed Wood that is celebrated for its staggering ineptitude. This stage adaption will be part homage and part mockery of the cult classic film.”
There are parts in the play for up to six men and six women ages 16 and older. Technical crew positions are also available. No previous acting experience is required.
Auditions will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 in the McDonald-Belton Theater on the NPCC South Campus, 601 W. State Farm Rd. Those unable to attend at that time can contact Galvan at [email protected] to discuss possible alternatives.
Rehearsals will begin Feb. 19 and continue through the performance dates April 2-4.
