NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Photographers of all ages are invited to showcase their best railroad-inspired images during the inaugural "All Aboard with a Railway Shot!" Photo Contest as part of North Platte Rail Days, taking place August 6-9.

The contest encourages participants to capture the spirit of railroading, community and the unique railroad heritage that has made North Platte famous.

For a $25 entry fee, photographers can reserve display space for one framed original photograph. Multiple entries are allowed. All submissions must be delivered to the Golden Spike Tower by Aug. 1.

Contest entries will be displayed throughout August at the Prairie Arts Center. Visitors can vote for their favorite photographs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6-8, with the top two vote-getters receiving Railway Shots Champion and Runner-Up honors.

According to Golden Spike Tower Executive Director Kellie Barner, the contest is designed to celebrate the stories behind railroad photography.

"The best photos tell a story," Barner said. "Whether it's the power of a passing train, a family memory, or a unique railroad moment, we want to see North Platte and trains through your lens."

Submitted photographs must be original, appropriate for all audiences and free of watermarks or logos. By entering, photographers also grant the Golden Spike Tower permission to use submitted images and photographers' names in future promotional and marketing materials.

Display space is limited. Registration is available online through the Golden Spike Tower.

North Platte Rail Days, hosted by the Golden Spike Tower, celebrates the community's rich railroad history with Bailey Yard tours, a model train show, family activities, special exhibits, live entertainment and other rail-themed experiences. The 2026 event runs Aug. 6-9 as part of America's 250th anniversary celebration while highlighting the past, present and future of railroading.
