NORTH PLATTE — A local resident is encouraging the community to reach out to homebound neighbors on Christmas Day, after learning Meals on Wheels will not be delivering meals in North Platte on Dec. 25.
“None of us like to think that there are people alone, especially on holidays,” the message to the North Platte Post read. With regular meal delivery paused for the day, homebound residents who rely on the service could go without a traditional holiday meal.
To fill the gap, residents are being asked to prepare an extra plate or two from their own Christmas dinner and personally deliver it to someone in need.
“It only takes a few minutes of your time to make someone’s day, and it will make your own heart happy,” the note said.
Anyone willing to help brighten a neighbor’s holiday can call 308-532-5085. Dianne Morales, who is coordinating the effort, will provide the name of a homebound resident who could use a warm meal and a friendly visit on Christmas.
Organizers say even a small act of kindness can bring comfort to someone spending the holiday alone.
