Dorothy Ruth (Noble) Conger passed away April 19, 2024, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was 92 years of age.
Dorothy was born October 1, 1931, to Charles Henry Noble and Ruth Emily (Wurtzel) Noble. Dorothy was born at the Genoa Indian School in Genoa, Nebraska, where her father was employed.
She graduated from Genoa High School in 1949 as the valedictorian. She attended Norfolk Junior College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with distinction in 1959. She later attended Kearney State College, earning a fifth-year master teaching certificate. She taught school in Lincoln, Superior, Minden, and 20 years in North Platte, retiring in 1989. She especially enjoyed teaching math and Nebraska history.
She married Ralph Joseph “Joe” Conger on September 3, 1950, and lived and taught in the towns mentioned above. The couple moved to North Platte in 1958. Three children were born to this union. Dorothy and Joe have five grandsons and one granddaughter.
Dorothy was a member of Chapter AK, PEO. She did years of volunteer work for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross, giving 14 gallons of whole blood and more than 275 units of platelets, and helping with many blood drives. She also enjoyed family, friends, quilting, reading, and traveling. Dorothy and Joe endowed several scholarships for North Platte area youth to continue their education at Mid-Plains Community College. They also funded swimming lessons for hundreds of children in North Platte. In 2021, the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation presented Joe and Dorothy the Above and Beyond Award for extraordinary acts of charitable giving.
Survivors include her husband Joe, son Kirk Conger (Cindy) of Lincoln, Nebraska; two daughters Valerie Conger (Andy) of Scotia, Nebraska, and Beth Cizadlo (Ted) of Wellington, New Zealand; and six grandchildren Kyle Arens, Craig (Elle) Conger, Lauren Conger, Eric Miksch, Woodrow Cizadlo, and Clement Cizadlo.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Huebner (Royal), and Charlotte Oakley (Robert); four brothers Victor, Kenneth, Leon, and Robert Noble; and great granddaughter, Makenna Conger.
Dorothy chose cremation.
