  Barbara J. Bartmess passed away at Great Plains Health on January 27,
2022, at the age of 84.
Barbara was born to Patrick and Alta (Linn) Duggan in North Platte on
October 14, 1937.  She grew up in the Elsie, Dickens and Wallace area
and graduated from Wallace High School in 1955.  Barbara then received
her teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College and started
teaching.  She taught in rural schools north of Brady and south of Wallace.
On July 27, 1957, Barbara was united in marriage to Lester W. Bartmess
in the old Catholic church at Wallace.  They made their home and raised
their family in Wallace. Barbara worked at the grocery stores then went
to work for the Nebraska Public Power District.  She worked security at
the Gerald Gentleman Station, checking every in and out for many years
until retiring in 1998.
Barbara moved to North Platte in 2000 and joined St. Patrick's Catholic
Church, a Red Hat Society, and attended all the single's dances.  She
really enjoyed dancing, loved life, her grandkids and her dog, Tiny.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; parents, Patrick
and Alta Duggan; and siblings, Francis Duggan and Patty Duggan.
Survivors include her children, Jodie Bartmess, of North Platte, Noel
(Susanne) Bartmess, of Bellevue and Julie Roos, of Crawford;
grandchildren, Amy (Zac) Riggs, Amanda Roos, Peter Bartmess, Anna
Bartmess, Abbie Bartmess and Steven Bartmess; great-grandchildren, Wade, Josi, Gavin, Ever, Kase and Eli; sister-in-law, Joan Duggan, of Grover, CO; as well as other family.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Odean
Colonial Chapel with Father Josh Brown officiating. Burial will follow
in the Wallace Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 7
p.m. and with family greeting from 4-6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at
C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences
