PIERCE, NEB - Springfield edges Ogallala 2-1 in extra innings in day 1 of the 2023 Class B State Tournament. An exciting defensive battle between the two teams. Ogallala will face York in the elimination game tomorrow at 9:30am mountain time/10:30 central time. We will have the game live on air with pregame coverage to begin at 9:20am mountain time/10:20am central time on Flatrock 100.7 and online at flatrock1007.com/2093-2/
Springfield would get on the board first in the bottom half of the 1st inning. Springfields Gage Ryba would get on base with a single up the middle and later scored on the Tucker Riha fielder's choice.
Springfield would keep a 1-0 score till the top half of the 4th. Cleanup hitter and third baseman Jayden Curtis for Ogallala would reach base on an infield single. Curtis would steal 2 bags before left fielder Max Mueller would score Curtis on an infield single. Scored tied at 1-1.
Both teams would make great defensive plays throughout the game. There were times where Ogallala and Springfield would be threatening to score before getting out of jams.
In the bottom half of the 9th, Springfields Carter Grosdideair would reach base on a single. A few batters later, Bryson Banks would step up to the plate. Banks would draw the walk which would bring in Grosdideair to score to eventually win the game 2-1 in 9 innings.
Ian Shaw would get the start for Ogallala in this morning's game. He would go 7 2/3 striking out 2 and only allowing 4 hits. Aydan Halligan would finish the remainder of the game for Ogallala. Ogallala would also finish the game with 7 hits. Caden Rezac went 3-3 with 3 singles. Mueller would finish the game with 2 hits. Colton Knispel and Curtis also had a hit in the game.
Springfield would start Ethan Loffer on the mound and Loffer would throw 8 complete innings striking out 12 batters in his appearance. Keegan Stobbe would finish the game. Hitting wise, Springfield would collect 6 hits in the game. Stobbe went 2-4 with 2 singles.
Ogallala will take on York tomorrow in the elimination round after York fell to Wayne 7-4. Wahoo was victorious over Chadron 7-1. The last game of the day features Pierce and Haswell Const. Post 56. That game is scheduled to start around 7:30pm central time. Due to rain in the area this morning, the first game was delayed by an hour.
