Zona Inez Fritz was born on December 24, 1947 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Everett D. and Inez V. (Severns) Taylor. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1966 and furthered her education by graduating from the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969.
Zona married James A. Von Loh on January 24, 1970 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska and to this marriage Heather Ann, Suzanne Marie, Nicole Aimee, and James Joel were born. On May 26, 1984 she was united in marriage to Ronald W. Fritz at St John's Lutheran Church in Oxford. Ron brought children, Michael Alan and Ann Marie to the family. Zona and Ron would add their final child, Matthew Wayne together. The family settled in their home southwest of McCook and called McCook home for the rest of their lives together.
Zona enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse; including working at Fritzer Memorial Hospital in Oxford and McCook Community Hospital where she worked from June of 1984 until her retirement on January 9, 2015.
Zona was a woman of strong faith. She began her faith journey with her baptism on February 25, 1951. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Culbertson, where she played the organ and was involved with various church groups and activities. Prior to St John, she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook for many years. She was also a member of the McCook Art Guild and enjoyed drawing and watercolor painting. Zona loved music and played the piano and organ. She was the bell choir director at Peace Lutheran in McCook, where she also played the organ for many years. She enjoyed reading, cooking/baking and spending time with her family. Zona loved seeing her grandchildren and she was very close with her sisters. She also enjoyed getting together to eat chili and watch Husker football.
Zona was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Taylor; brother, Herbert Taylor; sister, Avis Johnson and brother-in-law, Lloyd Johnson; sister, Dixie Green and brother-in-law, Lee Green; and daughter, Ann Brown.
She is survived by spouse, Ronald Fritz; children: son, Mike (Shelly) Fritz of Tucson, Arizona; son-in-law, Matt Brown of Culbertson; daughter, Heather (Matt) Knea of Plymouth Minnesota; daughter, Suzanne (Matt) Falkinburg of Longmont, Colorado; daughter, Nicole Hollers (Ryan Lloyd) of Omaha, Nebraska; son, James Von Loh of Omaha; and son, Matthew Fritz (Jessica Kuhr) of Platte Center, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Anita Taylor; sister-in-law, Sue Taylor, and sisters, Judy Tadlock, Gloria Egge and Nancy Fry; grandchildren: Trevor Fritz, Zachary Fritz, Katy Fritz, Randy Brown, Angela Brown, Ryan Brown, Julia Knea, Owen Knea, Hayden Falkinburg, Tyler Falkinburg, Cadence Hollers, Colin Hollers, and Camden Hollers; great-grandchildren Riley Brown, Draven Brown, and EJ Alan Fritz; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Zona passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska on Saturday, November 11, 2023 surrounded by many of her family. She was 75 years of age.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 2-6PM at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Zona's family will be present to greet friends from 4-6PM.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30AM, Saturday morning, November 18, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Culbertson with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Burial will follow services in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
