On February 7, 2023, North Platte lost one of its most beloved members, Bernard Lloyd 'Bernie' McNulty, who passed away at the age of 83 in his home. Bernie fought a hard battle with cancer until his passing.

He was born July 27, 1939, to Ivan L. and Thressa McNulty in Oconto, NE, where he grew up and attended high school. On July 9, 1973, Bernard married Rose Schwindt in Seattle, WA.
Bernie worked at General Tobacco and Candy in Lincoln from 1963 to 1977 then moved to North Platte where he purchased R&S Music. He later worked as a sales rep for Cash-Wa until 1999 when he opened Bernie's Woodshop. He continued working until retiring in 2018.
Bernie was active in the North Platte Railfest, Nebraskaland Days, Eagles Club, Moose Club, and Ski Club. He was so well known for his love of trains that he was commonly referred to as "Conductor Bernie". He was especially proud of his Christmas train shop during the holidays where he opened his home for children to watch the trains.
Bernie worked hard to build the frames for the memorial towers around North Platte. He became a "Mr. Fix It", building decks, tiling homes, an all around fix it man. Above all else, Bernie was an avid Cornhusker fan attending football games with his wife and friends which demonstrated how important family was to him throughout his life.
Bernard Lloyd McNulty will be remembered for many things - "Conductor Bernie", "Mr. Fix It", but most of all, for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and neighbor who always put family first no matter what obstacle he faced in life. These memories will live on forever in our hearts.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Thressa McNulty; and brother, Ralph Maynard McNulty.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose; 9 children, Kendall Hope, Danny (Polly) McNulty, Jeff (Connie) McNulty, Michael (Michelle) McNulty, Dianne (Vince) Harper, Dawn McNulty, Deniece McNulty, Deb McNulty Lovett and Rochelle Putnam; and his sisters, Delores Mitchell and Bonnie Grenwalt.
Survivors also include Bernie's grandchildren, Kristin (Russ), Adam (Leah), Abby, Cody, Matthew (Laura), Myron, Marcus (Naomi), Kayce, Brian (Lacey), Jessica (Ruben), Danielle, Anna, Jayme, Brenden and Peyton; 16 great-grandkids; and other family and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Friday from 1-5 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel and prior to services at the church. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are to the North Platte Animal Shelter. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
