The Nebraska State Patrol has identified the two people killed in a Thursday crash near North Platte as Alex Sanchez, 74, of North Platte, and Kimberly McCarter, 52, of Papillion.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said the call about a one-vehicle accident on the Tri-County Canal near State Farm Rd. and Box Elder Canyon Rd. came in around 1:45 p.m.
The sheriff's office said a pickup was approaching a curve near the intersection and apparently lost control before rolling and plunging into the canal.
The vehicle was almost fully submerged when first responders arrived.
Both Sanchez and McCarter were pronounced dead at the scene.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Two people are dead following a one-vehicle crash southeast of North Platte.
On Thursday at around Noon, the North Platte 911 Center received a report of a one-vehicle accident near State Farm Rd. and Box Elder Canyon Rd.
Early information indicates a vehicle drove into the Tri-County Canal.
Rescue crews from North Platte and Maxwell responded to the scene, but upon arrival found the vehicle almost fully submerged, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities confirmed that two people were dead as a result of the crash but released no further information, pending the notification of next of kin.
