Linda P. Bonar, age 72, of McCook, passed away at the Community Hospital of McCook on May 12, 2023. Linda was born in McCook at St. Catherine’s Hospital on March 10, 1951, to Raymond and Pearl (Seckinger) Bonar.

The family moved to Chadron, NE, where Linda graduated from high school in 1969.  After graduation, the family moved back to McCook. Linda then attended McCook Beauty Academy and worked as a beautician. She decided to pursue further education and attended McCook Community College, receiving an associate degree in criminal justice in 1976. During college she worked as a housekeeper, cook, and phone operator. She continued her education at Kearney State College and received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology in 1978. She was a Resident Assistant in the dorms while attending Kearney State College. Linda was married in 1978, divorced in 1980. She returned to McCook and worked as an aide at Hillcrest Nursing Home for several years.

After graduation from Kearney State College, Linda and her sister-in-law, Epuna went on a trip to Samoa. Linda loved cooking for the elderly and working with people. She had a heart of gold and was always helping others. She was active in the Big Sister program, and Youth Resources while in college at Kearney. She continued to help young people that needed her guidance.  Linda raised, bred, and showed Persian cats. Cats were her life’s passion. She enjoyed drawings with colored pencil, puzzles, genealogy, writing poems, and knitting.

Linda had a firm belief in God. She wrote, "I want my family to smile, and be happy, live long, healthy lives, and above all let each other know you love them. You'll never know how much that helps and means to a person."

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Linda is survived by her brother, Lonnie and wife, Epuna of McCook; nephew, Aaron Bonar, and Nickie, and children Arianna, Alex, Faith, and Serenity, of Omaha; nephew, Dan Bonar of McCook; niece, Julie and Jared Katt and children Michael, Orin, Grace, and Adelia, of Omaha; Aunt Gladys Ferguson of Canada; many cousins; and devoted friends, Vickie Blaisdell, Marilyn Mavigliano, and Kathy Scharvin.
