Betty J. Smith age 70 of North Platte passed away November 29, 2022 at her home.
Betty was born September 19, 1952 in Alliance, NE to Dale and Rose Mary Sperry Coleman.
Betty graduated from Hemingford High School in 1970 and received her RN license in 1974. She married Gary Smith on August 21, 1978 in Scottsbluff. In 1982 she worked as the Director of Nursing at the hospital in Newcastle. The couple moved to O’Neill in 2003 where she was a nursing home inspector. After moving to North Platte, she continued working for the state as a nursing home inspector until her retirement.
Betty was a strong woman and was an advocate for her nursing home residents.
Survivors include a sister, Bonnie (Bill) Shammel; sister-in-law, Debbie (Gary Wilson) Smith of Newcastle; step-son, Rick (Jennifer) Bane of Heath, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; nieces, Anna (Aaron) Logan and Jenny Mosley all of Newcastle; nephews Adam Shammel of Scottsbluff and Allan Shammel of Chadron; three great nephews; many family members and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Gary.

Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Chief Dennis Thompson officiating. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so today noon to 5:00 pm at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
