
Shirley Elaine Evans, age 93, of Hayes Center, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Great Plains Regional Med Center in North Platte, Nebraska.
Shirley was born March 8, 1927 in McCook, Nebraska to parents Ross Sidney and Joyce Dee (Johnson) Mosley. She was one of eight children who grew up in southwest Nebraska, attending school and graduating from Hayes Center High School in 1944.
On December 30, 1945, Shirley married Hershel Evans in Hayes Center where the couple made their home and were blessed with four sons. Over the years, Shirley enjoyed working alongside Hershel on the farm, milking the cows and giving them each a name, gardening, planting flowers and watching football. She also like to crochet and volunteered as a local 4-H club leader. Together with Hershel, the couple owned and operated the Double E Café for many years where Shirley was able to share her love of cooking, especially her bread and noodles, with others. Shirley was a member of the Kitchen Clatter Club and the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hayes Center.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hershel Evans; son, Mike Evans; three brothers; and two sisters.
Those left to celebrate her life include her sons, Jack (Jana) Evans of North Platte, Nebraska, Kelly (Sharon) Evans of Cambridge, Nebraska and Lanny (Ricka) Evans of Hayes Center, Nebraska; daughter-in-laws, Nancy Evans of Maywood, Nebraska and Linda Evans of Throckmorton, Texas; sisters, Priscilla (Jim) Phillips of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Judy Mosley of Durango, Colorado; sister-in-law, Pat Mosley of Salem, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and another one on the way.
Visitation, with family present to greet friends, will be on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, 305 West C Street, McCook, Nebraska, which is entrusted with arrangements.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayes Center Cemetery, Hayes Center, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to the Union Congregational United Church of Christ, Hayes County Volunteer Fire Department, or the Hayes Center Senior Center, all located in Hayes Center, Nebraska.
