Errol Eddie Overton was born on March 28, 1938 in Lexington, Nebraska to Curtis Alvin and Lillie Jeanette (Peterson) Overton.  He attended school in Arnold, Nebraska and graduated from Arnold High School in 1956.  After graduation, Ed worked in California laying hardwood floors with his brother; he was also a forestry firefighter during this time.  In January of 1959, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country proudly until his honorable discharge from service in December of 1963.

On August 31, 1968, Ed married Marcia (Madron) Mieth at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, Nebraska.  He gained not only a wife, but two sons, a dog, and a cat.  Ed supported his family by working for Northwestern Bell starting in Wayne, Nebraska and later transferring to McCook, Nebraska.  He helped provide this service to McCook and the surrounding area for 37 years until his retirement.

Ed was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of McCook, the American Legion, and the Communication Workers of America (CWA).  He was a jack of all trades who could fix anything; if you needed a spare part for a project, there was a good chance he had one laying around.  He enjoyed leather work and restoring antique tractors.  He was the definition of a DIY handyman.  Ed loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, especially deer and elk.  He loved animals, especially horses.

Ed Overton passed away early Thursday morning, February 8, 2024 at his home in McCook.  He was 85 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lillie; a baby sister, Karen Louise; sister, Caro and husband, Dennis Campbell; half-brother, Frank; half-sister, Grace; granddaughter, Nichole Kristine and her daughters, Bryn and Madelyn in 2012; grandson, Nicholas in 2021; sister-in-law, Jane Svenson; sister-in-law, Donnalea Kindler Melany; and brother-in-law, Warren Kindler.

Ed is survived by his wife Marcia of McCook; sons: Rudy (Gloria) of Baytown, Texas, Marc (Terri) of Harrison, Ohio, Lynn of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Robb (Mary Jo) of McCook; grandchildren: Richard, Steffen, Nichole, Brandon, Vincent, Nicholas, Triston, Riley, Maycee, Lanie, and Gage; great-grandchildren: Jaden, Andrew, Evan, Hayes, Skye, Nevaeh, Chloe, Bryn, Madelyn, Adrienne, Henry, Annie, Khalilah, and Owen; as well as his sisters, Cherie (Jerry) Armagost and Sharyn (Geoff) Mischke.
