OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska hospitals are stretched thin because of the current surge in coronavirus cases combined with the large number of health care workers who are out sick.
Nebraska Medicine infectious disease specialist Dr. Angela Hewlett says hospital workers are tired and overwhelmed.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 statewide grew to 649 on Tuesday. Hospital officials have said they are close to their limits because they are also treating non-COVID patients, and the number of virus hospitalizations may double over the next couple weeks.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the state reported its highest one-day total of virus cases during the pandemic Monday with 7,557 new cases.
