MPCC Valentine Campus to host panel discussion on health care

Posted Dec 01, 2020 12:24 AM

The Mid-Plains Community College Valentine Campus is joining forces with Valentine Economic Development to address a shortage of health care workers in the region.

The organizations will offer a free panel discussion from 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 8 to let people know about the opportunities that exist in the field of health care.

“We’re really trying to get people excited about entering a high-demand health care profession,” said Carolyn Petersen, MPCC Valentine Campus administrator. “We also want to share the benefits of working in a rural setting. Health care facilities around here are starving for help, and it’s important to us to help meet that need.”

The panel will consist of hospital, nursing home and emergency medical service representatives among others.

Discussion topics will include employment opportunities as well as age and educational requirements. Information about financial assistance for training will also be provided. Money for tuition, books, occupation-related equipment and fuel vouchers may be available for qualified applicants.

Participants can attend the panel discussion in person at the MPCC Valentine Campus, 715 E. Highway 20 in Valentine, or virtually at https://zoom.us/j/97276770620.

Pre-registration is not required. More information is available through the MPCC Valentine Campus at (402) 376-8033 or Mike Burge at (402) 376-6842.
