Nebraska became the 33rd state in the U.S. to sanction Girls wrestling on Wednesday, May 19th.

The vote was unanimous 8-0. The board decided to move forward with sanctioning the sport after last year when it declined to do so. This past year girls wrestling operated as an emerging sport where girls were allowed to wrestle but did not have a state championship.

2022 will see that change. The board approved a one-class girls division that will compete alongside the boys at the state tournament at CHI health center.
