
Deanna G. Stecker, age 72, of McCook, passed away at Kearney Regional Hospital on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 after a courageous, four-year battle for her health. She was born in Cambridge, NE on August 24, 1950 to Loyd and Betty (Johnson) Thompson. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1968 and enjoyed flight attendant school after that.
Deanna loved to travel, and her work at Amway provided wonderful opportunities to see new places. Deanna moved a few times as a young adult and lived in Louisiana, and Colorado, eventually making her home near McCook at the farm west of town. Deanna enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bowling, and collecting tea pots. She loved to go camping and took her children a few times each summer season. After her grandchildren were born, Deanna cherished time spent teaching them how to bake and make crafts. Deanna's family and grandchildren brought her immense joy and were a source of great pride.
Deanna worked for Hinky Dinky until the grand opening of the Super Walmart. She then served the community as a Walmart baker for over 20 years. Coworkers and customers alike have said that Deanna had the best smile and would always make time to talk to friends and acquaintances. She was a kind woman with a heart of gold.
Deanna was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Thompson; grandparents; and Aunt, Wilma Babb.
Deanna is survived by her father, Loyd Thompson (Cambridge); son, Ryan Stecker (McCook); daughter, Darcy and her husband Tony Rouse (McCook); grandchildren, Dylan and Lacey; sister, Debbie and her husband Mike Abbott (Ashland); brother, Kenneth Thompson and his husband, Barry (Colorado Springs, CO); cousin, Cheryl and her husband, Del Coulson (Wichita, KS).
Memorial service is planned for Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. A private family inurnment will take place at a future date in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com.
