Richard Edson, 89, of Gothenburg, NE, surrounded by family, went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 21, 2023 in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born on the family farm April 8, 1934 north of Gothenburg, NE, son of Chris and Esther Edson.

He was a member over the years of both the Evangelical Free Church and United Methodist Church. 

Richard met the love of his life, Pauline Miller, on a blind date at a youth group gathering hot dog roast in the Miller family canyons. Richard attended country school District 89 until he was needed at home to work on the family farm, as was common during the Great Depression. After Pauline graduated, Richard and Pauline traveled to Julesburg, CO and were married on April 13, 1954. To this union, seven children were born.

Richard started his trucking career by first hauling hay and cottonseed cake in the local area, then cattle to the Omaha Stock Yards. Always looking for a new adventure, over his lifetime he hauled irrigation pipe, sod, swinging and processed meat, produce, liquid feed and fertilizer, processed livestock feed and all varieties of grain.Another adventure Richard participated in since he had the truck and moving expenses were high, was assisting with the moving of several different Pastors that came and went from the Evangelical Free Church in Gothenburg. 

Survivors include: son, Dwight (Claire) Edson of Gothenburg, son, Ken Edson of Gothenburg, son, Rodney Edson of Fairbury, daughter, Linda (Bob) Miles of Bremerton, WA, son, Bob (Lisa) Edson of Houston, TX, daughter, Sherri (Gregg) McMichael of Gothenburg; 15 grandchildren: Megan, Isaac, Luke, Micah, Isaiah, Matthew, KiLee, Zachary, Ryan, Tiffany, Aaron, Branndon, Dillon, Jarred, and Eliott; 24 great-grandchildren: Bailea, Callie, Dawson, Adelyn, Brielle, Emmett, Santiago, Boden, Scarlett, Avery, Emma, Layla, Jayden, Emree, Tynnlee, Cohen, Bennett, Conagher, Wacey, Weston, Brooks, Ryker, Grayson and Nathan; son-in-law, Greg Cleveland; sister, Joan (Romaine) Aden and family; friends: Lynn Taylor and Ronda Edson, along  with extended family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by wife, Pauline, his parents, in-laws, infant daughter, Sheryl Sue Edson, granddaughter Ellie Edson Cleveland and infant great granddaughter Sloane Edson. 

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth St, Gothenburg, NE, Tuesday, September 26, 2023, 1:00-7:00 pm. with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, September 27, 2023 at 10:30 am with Pastor Grace Gichuru officiating.  

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the family for later designation.
