Don Garner, age 63, died at home in Gothenburg on January 10, 2024.
Don, the son of Demar and Ethel Garner, was born at Imperial on January 21, 1960. He grew up in North Platte then enlisted into the U.S. Marines and served until 1979. Following his discharge he returned home and worked various jobs, learning new skills along the way. Don liked sharing his work experiences with others and was hard working. He was also crafty, loyal to his family, and loved his dog, Remi, more than people.
Don had excellent carpenter skills and could build just about anything. He provided for himself as an avid gardener, living off the land hunting and fishing. He was resourceful and creative, and he never complained. Don lived life his way and worried more about his family than himself.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Demar Garner; mother and stepfather, Ethel and Gerald Hanson; siblings, Glendin and husband, Bradford Patrick, John and wife, Lora Garner, Lavella Pfeister and Leona "Lee" Webster; and aunt and uncle, Marymae and Don Seery.
He is survived by his siblings, Orpha (Terry) Walker, Janie (Dale) Newtson, John Hanson, Mary Stewart, and Johnette (Fredrick) Long; brother-in-law, Leonard Pfeister; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many other family.
Cremation was chosen and family will have a celebration of life at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com. Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
