
Ursula Ulmer Gurwell, 81, of North Platte, passed away August 8, 2023 at Great Plains Health. She was born May 12, 1942 in Ulm, Germany to Otto and Gertrude (Deininger) Treffert.
Ursula traveled to the United States in 1963. She met Jess Gurwell in 1964 and they were married shortly after. To this union, one daughter was born, Tanya Rosemary. Ursula resided in Nebraska for almost 60 years with her husband Jess.
Ursula had a natural ability to make friends easily. She was a seamstress all her life. She could mend or make almost anything from scratch. Ursula did alterations for the public for many years. She took special pride in making clothes for her daughter Tanya and then for her granddaughter, Amber. Ursula loved her card-playing friends; every week they would plan one or two nights to get together to play cards. Her best friend Linda was always by her side. Ursula also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and of course her specialty was German food. Ursula and Jess were members of the Moose Lodge for years and she would cook there for many. She was a special soul and such a strong person all her life.
Survivors include husband, Jess Gurwell of North Platte; daughter, Tanya (Mike) Barksdale of Muscle Shoals, AL; granddaughter, Amber Bockus of Atlanta, GA; newly found extended family members, David and Angela Gurwell-James and family, of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gertrude Karoline and Otto Treffert of Helbronn-Nekargartach, Germany.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gift of Hope Cancer Foundation. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
